No surprise really- Williamson leaked like a sieve, and this story made him look good whilst damaging the PM/Javid and Hunt.

He was a sh**t SOS who pandered to the tabloid press

Ironic as Mordaunt was the favourite to get it last time- ex navy, junior minister and handled DFID as well as you expect from the Tories. Rory Stewart is a solid choice- a bit earnest, but one of the most qualified MPs for the job considering he was a Governor in post war Iraq.

the literal definition of the word "parasite"

I've been on his trains. Well I say on, I mean kicked off of one of his trains for having the wrong ticket after another one of his trains was cancelled because of snow. In April. It wasn't snowing

Getting straight sacked is outright rare; although Williamson says he declined to resign as that would tauntamont to a guilty plea.

So the three pro-Brexit parties lost bigly at the local elections, and the two anti-Brexit parties saw massive gains.  Therefore...

Theresa May: "The voters have given us the simple message... to get on and deliver Brexit."

*facepalm*  Not such a simple message, it seems.

Its not as simple as you make out either, though May is being deeply disingenuous obviously.

Labour and the Tories should negotiate a softer Brexit than the one May was trying to ram through, one that still respects the will of the voters in 2016 while taking into account the wishes they have expressed in 2019. Which seems to be exactly what Corbyn and May are trying to do. I hope to God that the Remoaners and Brexit fanatics don't sabotage this genuinely commendable effort.

Because that’s a sh**t take on what happened, as even Remain supporters on here will tell you. See the Local Election thread.

Fair enough, although in my defense British politics makes no sense whatsoever any more.  Or at least much less than it used to.

I've been following British politics since 1997... it's never made this little sense.

CPGB-ML are the people who think Stalin was too Liberal, even Stop the War kicked them out for being too extreme. They are far more extreme than the main Communist Party that Andrew Murray used to be in. This really shouldn’t be a surprise since they are also big cheer leaders for Russia - like Farage/Fox are.

No there were a few polls where they were third in the early 80s (when the SDP were surging) and in 1993 at the height of the Major government's unpopularity. I don't think they've ever dropped as low as 19% though. The Tory+Labour share at 46% is the lowest I can find (previous low was 46.5% in a MORI poll in December 1981).

Actually the all time Tory low is IIRC 18% in an early 1995 Gallup poll.

(same figure is the all time low for Labour BTW)

It wouldn't be much of a coalition if they only have 163 seats between them.
