Do you think the Spanish socialists have a dark past to apologize for? Anything as dark as the Francoist legacy of death and repression? As far as I know the PSOE made mistakes in that period, but it's not responsible for big crimes as a political organization. Claiming that socialists and republicans were as criminal as the Franco's gang is a disregard of the historical truth. When serious historians talk about the crimes committed by both sides in the Civil War, they remark their different nature and magnitude. Murder and repression in the Francoist side were planned and systematic: they had lists of politically undesirable persons to eliminate, either in the conquered places or in the rearguard. Crimes in the Republican side were perpetrated mainly by improvised militias out of the government's control, especially in the first months during a period of chaos and collapse of authority. The republican government never promoted mass murder and there are many examples of individuals helping endangered people to escape. Franco showed no mercy with the losers. He killed much more people after his victory, as well as imprisoned many in concentration camps. Franco used slave labourers (prisoners of war) to build the horrible place in which his remains are resting now in the company of thousands of his victims: their corpses were carried to Valle de los Caídos from mass graves located across the country (isn't it sinister?). On the other hand, some of the defeated republicans who fled Spain ended in places like Mathausen with the Franco's complacency.

Your love for El Caudillo is a bit shocking, even if you are ideologically far right. Franco was an ally of Hitler and Mussolini. Without their help (and the fake neutrality of the UK and France), he could not have won the Civil War. Franco did not enter in WWII with Hitler, but only because the Fuhrer did not agree to hand some French colonies to El Caudillo and his army could not get supplies from Nazi Germany. Finally, some prominent nazis sought refuge in Francoist Spain and lived there unmolested.

I mean, you are Jewish and there are plenty of far right ultranationalists in Israel to root for... Why Franco?
