But... I would say that the average black (or Latina) Republican office seeker almost always has to have a super clean-cut image and say crazy sh!t to appeal to the base.


So, since I don't know any brown people who act like that, I'd say that's sort of acting white - or acting like they're not a "typical" member of their race, as seen in the classic trope of the "cool black guy" ala John James or, in a non political example, Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

So having a super clean-cut image is a trait attributed to white people? What an awfully racist thing to say.

I'm certainly not racist, in fact, I was originally just trying to say Republicans like their token black candidates, but somehow my brain went wrong and I started trying to say explain this further.

In hindsight, posting in this thread was a mistake and I probably didn't mean a lot of what I said.

Calling someone a token for simply not being in line where others in their group identify is also racist. People are allowed to have their own opinions, even if they differ from their racial identity's standard voting bloc. It's also not tokenism for others who make up the majority of the existing group to appreciate having some new faces in the mix that normally wouldn't be there.
