1. Most Americans did not know he was a Mormon

2. Most Americans do not know much about Mormonism outside of Utah. If they do, all they know is that they used to allow multiple wives. Romney clearly had one wife so it didn't matter

3. No one cares. Its 2012, most white Americans are just lumped together. No one cares if you are Irish or German or Baptist or Catholic. The amount of people who do are too small to affect an election.


Romney lost because Obama was a popular incumbent who had a strong coalition. The economy was improving and Obama was very strong in the Midwest for saving the auto industry. Plus Republicans were still blamed for the recession. The idea that Romney lost because of his faith is just silly
