Joe Biden to announce his 2020 presidential bid on Thursday
Quote
Joe Biden will announce his presidential bid on Thursday with an online video, sources familiar with the plans confirm to CNN, finally answering one of the lingering questions hanging over the 2020 Democratic race.

The former vice president's team has been laying the campaign groundwork for months, with Biden's decision growing less secretive or suspenseful by the day. But now that he has given the green light to his advisers, Biden is facing one of the biggest challenges of his half-century career in politics.

What if Hogan, Weld, Kasich split the #NeverTrump vote?!?

Hopefully they would be able to work out some sort of deal over who campaigns against Trump in which states. I doubt that any of them would want to be kept off a state's ballot though.

He'll never be able to make a single decision if he happens to stumble into the White House somehow.

A new story says that Abrams is looking to decide on whether to run for Senate "by next week":

https://www.ajc.com/blog/politics/abrams-cancels-speaking-gig-california-amid-labor-unrest/WYggzgKTGuYzoDPnCtGR5J/

Though I guess I'm unclear on whether that's original reporting here, or if they're just going off the fact that she recently said she's decide within weeks.

It's easy to go with the consensus all neoliberal all the time when you're in DC.

Signs pointing towards Bullock 2020:

https://nbcmontana.com/news/local/new-campaign-finances-point-to-possible-bullock-2020-run

Quote
We’ve told you before that sources say if a governor hypothetically were going to run for president, they would probably wait until after their legislative session ends. That wrapped up Thursday.

On Friday, Bullock had a closed-door meeting in Butte, where there were camera crews. He said he had nothing to announce.

We dug deeper into the latest financial reports. His PAC is now paying the salary of Jack Segal. Segal lives in Des Moines, Iowa, and worked for a state representative there. His bio says he "intends to join a 2020 presidential campaign later this year."

MT public radio has more:

https://www.mtpr.org/post/bullocks-closed-door-event-butte-fuels-presidential-campaign-speculation

Bullock met with union people for a town hall event to talk about his future plans (everyone signed a non-disclosure agreement) and a TV crew was present too to film the meeting and his speech.

Stacey Abrams, last year's Democratic nominee for Georgia governor, will announce Monday or Tuesday whether she plans to run for the U.S. Senate in 2020, two sources familiar with her plans told ABC News Friday.

Abrams:

https://www.ajc.com/blog/politics/the-jolt-decision-time-approaches-for-stacey-abrams/kjMF1boiDiCDMc1x8y42hN/

Quote
Most Georgia Democrats we’ve contacted expect her to bow out of the race against U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., but leave open the possibility of a White House run.
.
.
.
Why do we expect Abrams’ decision on Tuesday rather than today? Her voting rights group, Fair Fight Action, has a court hearing Monday afternoon -- on that vast lawsuit challenging Georgia’s voting system. Abrams might not want to steal its thunder.

More Bullock hires:

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2019/04/29/new-trade-deal-faces-mounting-resistance-429716

Quote
Montana Gov. Steve Bullock is making major staffing moves -- including hiring in Iowa -- the clearest sign yet that he’s nearing a White House run. Bullock just hired Galia Slayen to serve as communications director for his political committee, Big Sky Values PAC. Slayen would be the likely choice to slide into the same role on a presidential campaign.

SLAYEN recently served as comms director for Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s successful 2018 campaign and has worked on statewide races across the country, including in Iowa, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky.

ALSO COMING ON BOARD IS James Owens, who worked as comms director for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and was the states comms director for NARAL Pro-Choice America. Bullock is no stranger to Iowa and set off new 2020 buzz during a February trip there. His PAC is also bringing on Jeremy Busch, who just finished a stint in Iowa working on the unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign of Democratic nominee Fred Hubbell. Busch was named Iowa press secretary to Bullock’s PAC.

Abrams and Bullock are both delusional if they believe to have a shot at the Dem nomination. Both should run for senate.

de Blasio:

https://www.amny.com/opinion/columnists/mark-chiusano/bill-de-blasio-2020-president-facebook-pete-1.30443328

Quote
Last week, something that has been dormant for the last calendar year suddenly reawakened. Bill de Blasio’s unofficial campaign Facebook page started running advertisements.

“This country has spent decades taking from working people and giving to the one percent. I've had enough,” says one ad.

“With so many Americans struggling to deal with rising costs, it's time for universal health care. Do you agree?” asks another.

Over the last week the de Blasio page ran more than 50 ads for a cost of $13,445, according to Facebook’s political ad archive. Here’s another taste: “President Trump is leading our country in the wrong direction. But in New York — and across the country — progressives are showing how we can build a fairer, more diverse, and more prosperous America. Sign on to join the fight.”

Stacey Abrams has decided against running for the Senate from Georgia in 2020, according to a Democratic official.

Abrams met with Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer on Monday to inform him of her plans.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Abrams will focus on her voting rights project. She has not decided whether to seek any other office at this time.

If we don't pick-up that seat it's her fault and I'll never forgive her for it.

And it looks like she's made it official: No 2020 Senate run for her, but a presidential run hasn't been ruled out:

Congratulations Senator Daines on a hard fought reelection, he's Safe now, unless Schweitzer takes the plunge, but I doubt he actually does, and he could be painted as a retread

The story used as a source here says his announcement is still two weeks away:

https://ktvh.com/news/2019/05/01/mt-gov-bullock-preparing-to-announce-candidacy-for-president/

Quote
Montana Gov. Steve Bullock will announce his bid for the presidency in two weeks, MTN News has learned — adding to the 20 Democrats already running for the 2020 nomination to challenge President Trump.

Bullock, a two-term governor who can’t run for re-election in 2020 because of term limits, isn’t talking publicly yet about his specific plans.

But sources told MTN News the Democratic governor plans to officially unveil his candidacy soon, likely the week of May 13.

I love Steve Bullock. He was my preferred candidate until the #PeteFever hit me, but I think now...it's too late. I'd rather see him run for Senate. I'll still chip in a few bucks if he runs, but I just don't think he should run.

There has to be a question of whether these late-entered candidates will qualify for the debates. They have only a few weeks until the first one and need to raise $65K from 40K separate donors. I can see Williamson and Gravel making it but not Bullock or Bennet.

Bullock's already qualified on the basis of polling:
