Among the key findings of the report, the committee writes that “the Russian government directed extensive activity, beginning in at least 2014 and carrying into at least 2017, against U.S. election infrastructure at the state and local level.”

Time to strike back!

NATO should admit Ukraine, Finland, and Georgia ASAP and continue seizing Russian vessels like Ukraine did yesterday.

More evidence for my theory that lots of bad things happened in 2014:

Why end in 2014? That year was a sharp downward turn in the world's fortunes.

McConnell Nixes Two Dem. Election-Security Bills (July 25, 2019)
Quote
McConnell rejected Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s request for consent to pass legislation approved by the House that funds the Election Assistance Commission and sets up a requirement to use paper ballots, calling it “partisan legislation.”

“Clearly this request is not a serious effort to make a law. Clearly something so partisan that it only received one single solitary Republican vote in the House is not going to travel through the Senate by unanimous consent,” McConnell argued.

The majority leader also shot down Democratic senator Richard Blumenthal’s request for consent to pass a second election-security bill that would require political candidates, their families, and their campaign associates to report to the FBI offers of assistance from foreign governments.

See page 22 of the report.  Russian cyber actors breached Illinois voter systems and accessed up to 200,000 voter registration records.  They were in position to change or delete voter data, although there is no evidence that this occurred.

The goal of NATO is to deter aggression—not to sign up to two pre-existing wars.

With that in mind, they probably also helped fuel Gamergate. I can't help but associate that fiasco with 2014. Other than graduating college that year and the midterms, it's what I immediately associate with that year.

And I agree, it was a pretty clear canary in the coalmine for what the future would hold.

Putin was trying to divide us, just like they taught him in the KGB, and Americans are falling for it.

The free world needs to unite against Putin and his neo-Russian Empire fantasy.

Turtle Face is a short-sighted partisan fool, and I don't think his eyeglasses are helping his vision where it counts most.  He doesn't seem to understand or care that if he turns a blind eye to Russian interference because he perceives his party as benefiting from it, that will simply embolden other foreign countries like China and Iran to do the same.  And then both parties will become vehicles of foreign powers seeking to manipulate us to do their bidding.  Is that what he wants to be his legacy when he finally kicks the bucket?

When someone has nothing better to do, he/she becomes obsessed with Russia (as former Secretary of Defence became in 1950th.....)

It makes sense that it would start in 2014 because that was when the seizure of Crimea happened. They then began backing the opposition to the administration that put sanctions on them, but until 2015 there was no clear indication that the GOP would be any less stringent on Russia. So this was a big gamble and most likely largely just for chaos purposes.

Later on however, they certainly had an eye to assist a favorable candidate to their interests when the opportunity came about.

Even our ultranationalists cannot fail but to be internationalists under the conditions of late capitalism.

Brah have u never seen Red Dawn or played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? That's the kind of stuff Putin wants irl!!!

If we had President McMullin or Rubio right now we wouldn't be worrying about Russia because Putin wouldn't mess with an American commander in chief who would fight back, unlike Obama/Clinton/Trump

This prez won't stand up to Putin. The next Dem must cripple Russia and Putin with sanctions until they stop. Maybe Obama should have done more, too, or underestimated the threat.

He doesn't care one bit. If America ever goes full authoritarian non-democracy he'd be a prime benefactor and will gleefully get richer as America descends into something very bad.
