Checks and balances feels like such a foreign concept now. The Constitution's Framers f***ed up so bad. The American experiment was worth a try, but it is clearly a failure.

Not creating a separate process, free from meddling, for investigating the executive branch (including POTUS), is proving to be an incredibly dumb mistake that should have been obvious even back then.

What we're left with is basically a president that could, in theory, be totally immune from the law so long as they have enough allies in Congress and an Attorney General who won't appoint a special counsel. And even if one is appointed, just make sure the DoJ's policy on not prosecuting POTUS is still in effect. How simple!

This alone is enough to justify a constitutional convention, though there are other issues that can also be addressed.

I purchased the Mueller report, paperback, on Amazon. I like this better than the various PDFs.

Trump's election has demonstrated that our Constitution is woefully outdated in many respects.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y) said Friday that special counsel Robert Mueller will not be testifying before his panel next week.

Nadler told reporters that the committee is still negotiating over his testimony with the Justice Department and Mueller but expects the special counsel to appear.

“It won’t be next week. We’re negotiating now,” Nadler said. “We’re talking with him and the Justice Department.”

Mueller Shuns Public Hearing as Talks Stall With House Democrats
Quote
Robert Mueller is balking at testifying publicly before Congress, pushing for a closed-door appearance in negotiations with House Democrats, according to three people familiar with the special counsel’s position.

Mueller has told the Democratic-controlled House Judiciary Committee that he doesn’t want to be dragged into a political fight and that he’s hesitant to publicly discuss his final report, according to the people, who asked not to be identified discussing the continuing negotiations.
Putin's plan has always been to sow political discord. He surely would have loved see Mueller participating in the Democrats' partisan sh**t show.

Too bad, Mueller seems not to want to play these games of Putin's useful idiots, the Democrats. Mueller is not a "little pencil neck".

Ironic coming from one of Putin's useful idiots himself.

Mueller wants to avoid 'political spectacle' of public testimony: Nadler
Quote
Special counsel Robert Mueller is eager to avoid the politics swirling around his investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia's 2016 influence efforts and doesn't want to testify publicly on Capitol Hill about his findings, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said Thursday.

"He doesn't want to be public in what some people will regard as a political spectacle, I think," Nadler said in an interview with MSNBC, confirming reports from ABC News and other outlets about House Democrats pushing back on DOJ's offer for limited Mueller testimony.

"He's willing to make an opening statement, but he wants to testify in private," he said. "We think it's important for the American people to hear from him and to hear his answers to questions about the report."

Nadler confirms.

They didn't predict national parties becoming so dominant (which I think could have been done to some extent at the time, although information technology probably makes that a lot stronger today than it used to).

The notion that Congress majorities would serve as loyal subjects to a president-tyrant seems to have been completely alien to their thinking.

If Mueller does testify in private that won't change anything. Americans will just think that both sides are just parroting their own narratives. His testimony really should be public, out side of potentially classified information, if he cared about the truth becoming the dominant narrative. I'm sorry, but everything is political nowadays, he should just accept it.

My understanding is that he simply wants the testimony not to be televised, but that transcripts would be available to the public.

I guess that's fair. Him being televised would still be better and truly settle this once and for all though, because I doubt too many Americans will actually read the transcripts and just prefer to hear them filtered through the news source of their preference. It's better than nothing though.

Three things Mueller emphasized:

1) Russia made extensive efforts to interfere in the 2016 election

2) The Special Counsel's office would have declared Trump innocent if they had reached that conclusion. They did not.

3) The Special Counsel's office could not consider charging Trump.

Reading between the lines seems straightforward.

I would still like him to testify and answer one question: if Donald Trump was not the sitting President of the United States, would you have charged him with obstruction of justice?

Trump has "NOTHING" against Roy Moore. Let that sink in, deep.

Sexual harasser and rapist doesn't have anything against another one, that's not really a surprise. Absolutely disgusting, but not a surprise.

Exactly. Trump has also displayed creepy behavior towards minors as well. Not Moore level, but still.
