So, Opening Day today and all that.

Giants lost today, 2-0, opening up a season that is probably going to be at somewhat sad for the entire organization and all its fans - as it's Bruce Bochy's 13th and final season as manager. He led us to three championships earlier this decade after a half-century drought, and really has been a central bulwark of the team; it's a bit hard to believe that he's really retiring.

Bochy became Giants manager just before I started getting into baseball, so I really don't know what it will be like without him. I know the Giants really aren't that great a team this year, but I'm hoping we can at least hit 74-88 and get him to 2000. If we can somehow manage a winning record, he'll break the top 10 all time; this is in addition to being the only manager ever to clear 900 wins with two different teams. He's a likely hall of fame inductee and we probably see the Giants retire #15 as well. Success or failure, I'm probably going to try to savor all the positives of this season as much as I can.

As a Cardinals fan, I am hoping for big things out of Yadi, Goldschmidt, Carp, and co. on offense, and that Waino, Mikolas, Miller, Hicks, and Flaherty do well for us on the mound.

Crazy that baseball is back. Truly doesn't feel like it.

I am optimistic about the chances for my Cubs this year. It will largely hinge on how well Bryant and Darvish can bounce back. I expect Lester, Rizzo, and Baez to be lights out again, although Baez may cool off *slightly*

With Dodgers having Russell Martin and Pollack, they can beat Red Sox in Wrld Series

If that is what the Cubs can expect out of CJ Edwards, a top 3 bullpen piece, then it is going to be a long year.

It should be interesting to see if Darvish can work his way out of whatever his problem is.

Russell Martin was what the Dodgers needed and he can pitch too.  Sale took the bats out of Dodgers hands last year, with addition of Pollack, the bats will be back

Our.  Pitching.  Is.  Awful.

A coworker who's also a huge Cubs fan described our performance yesterday as "looking like they all get hammered the night before."  Spot on.

Giants just traded for Kevin Pillar...after five games. Wtf? I’m not disagreeing with the move, we desperately needed a third starting outfielder, but wtf is this timing.

This year has been amazing because even if we are terrible, we are currently ahead of Boston! Boston losing feels much better than winning. (Won't last for long! - but ugly run differential to go with it)

Cubs just like Sox won that Wrld Series and that was it, no consistency in winning

Fact check: they have the most wins in MLB over the past four seasons. There is clearly consistent winning there.

That being said, they are not currently built and operating like they can win the World Series this year. They are going to have to overhaul their pitching staff to get back to contention, and that is going to be really difficult to do.

Their bullpen is awful and have a lot of money tied up in bad starting pitching. Hope it continues for years to come! Cheesy

Giants are actually on a 3 game win streak, wow.

May be going to the Friday game, which, according to historical patterns, means it probably ends there.

NL Central is a real log jam ... even the Reds.
