Naath, of course, is home to a species of butterfly that transmits a deadly fever to everyone who visits. Only the Naathi are immune — everyone else eventually succumbs to a horrible disease that causes their flesh to peel from their bones. RIP Grey Worm

I really liked the ending. Definitely felt very LOTR with Jon saying farewell by the boats. And my prediction was pretty darn close:

Any last predictions?

I predict:
* Bran's magic will be important in some way (possessing Drogon?)
* Sansa will be Queen (of probably just the North)
* Daenerys will die but Jon won't be King (or only as briefly as Daenerys will be considered Queen)
* I don't know about Arya or Tyrion, but I think Tyrion is likely to die
* I don't know about the secondary characters like Davos/Bronn/Brienne/Pod/Sam/Gilly/etc. except that Grey Worm will probably die too (though not sure what happens to the Dothraki and Unsullied)
* I hope there's a flash-forward epilogue, so we can see that the new peace does last
* As for whether Westeros either breaks up, centralizes, or takes a step towards democracy... I think the North and Iron Islands become independent, and maybe Dorne becomes independent too, but the rest of Westeros (Crownlands, Stormlands, Riverlands, the Vale, Lannister lands, and Highgarden/the Reach) will become more centralized with a stronger monarch who is chosen by a council of the lords to determine the succession, so there are no more wars for succession or bad monarchs who inherit the throne due to bloodline. Maybe they'll choose someone like Davos, a good guy who always has good advice and knows how to rally, but has never desired power himself.

I wonder how the Rowans, Redwynes, Florents and ESPECIALLY the Hightowers who barely tolerated the claim of the Tyrells would feel about being lorded over by a commoner mercenary.

I didn't understand what they were implying happened with Jon at the end.  So he joins the new Night's Watch, which seems like a pointless organization at this point, with the White Walkers being gone and the Wildlings now seemingly being on decent terms with the 6 Kingdoms.  But then he ends up riding off with the Wildlings.  Is he ditching the new Night's Watch to live with the Wildlings?  Just escorting them somewhere?  Or are the Wildlings now part of the Night's Watch or something, and he's going ranging with them?

How kind of the Targaryen loyalists to suddenly accept a Stark-Tully as their King despite their outrage, and to also accept Tyrion being the hand. And of the Iron Islands, Dorne and other regions not to demand independence like the North. And of the lords not mentioning a certain legitimized Baratheon with a claim to the throne when debating candidates for King. And of the Reach to accept a random sellsword as Lord of Highgarden. And of people being surprisingly okay with an emotionless, omnisicent King without a proper line of succession. And of the North to still press for independence despite a Stark being made king.

And one could go on...

(I'll calm down soon, it's just that I really find the politics of it really difficult to justify)

So did Bran manipulate everything and everyone over the years to lead to himself being named king? I thought they were kinda hinting at it, but they should have been more direct about it.

I think the ending is a lot better if so.

SAM: what if we tried democracy
YOHN ROYCE, WHO IS HERE FOR SOME REASON: actually, we're not a democracy, we are a republic.
A PRISONER: what if we made bran king, he has a good story
ARYA, WHO MASTERED DEATH ITSELF: yes, he has a better story than i do
SANSA: unfortunately, bran's dick does not work. we are seceding from the union.
UNNAMED PRINCE OF DORNE, WHO HAS NO LINES: my historically independent realm — the only one with an intact army — raises no objections to this strange stark child allowing his sister to secede, and we are totally okay with that.
BRAN: excellent. my first act will be finding one of the characters who cannot count. he is now master of coin.
BRONN: i want to spend all the money on brothels
BRAN: fine by me, i'm going to spend my time attempting to mentally possess a dragon on another continent.
ARYA: i'm a pirate now

I lost it when someone brought Tyrion A Song of Ice and Fire by Ebrose. Is he GRRM's self insert or something?

I didn't, but since you do, could you explain why you liked it? Maybe your perspective might shine some line on things I took for granted.

The same reason I've enjoyed most of this season: I don't view this as the end of the saga of Westeros. I view it as one chapter in a long history still being compiled. That's how I've seen it since about season 2. It's one period in the history of the country.

We often forget in the Wars of the Roses comparisons that they were just one part of British history that didn't solve everything. There was extreme religious turmoil in the years ahead, and wars that the entire island was never fully united behind. As far as the Holy Roman Empire comparisons i'm seeing, the religious wars basically tore it apart.

One chapter of Westeros is complete.  There are undoubtedly more.

can somebody please explain to me why the seven realms didnt just dissolve back into independent kingdoms like the north just did? that would make much more sense than randomly making bran king.  realistically, they all should had just peaced out. i mean the only thing that brought and kept the 7 kingdoms together was the threat of targaryens' dragons and when they were gone, the dynasty was basically just rolling on inertia until robert's rebellion. ok, i need to stop giving this show more thought than the writers clearly did. im just disappointed

the dornishmen and ironborn are historically subservient people. plus, an assembly of random major characters elected the catatonic stark child, and who are they to question that decision?

Not saying anything is the easiest way to seem wise if D&D are doing the writing.

Am I allowed to have a positive opinion? It seems like positive opinions are forbidden on pain of death or something.

I'm glad you've enjoyed the series, but I can't echo your sentiment. Maybe I've finally gotten the chance to experience the feeling that people who hated The Last Jedi felt.

You are, and you're also free to continue victimizing and feeling sorry for yourself even though no one here is criticizing you personally for liking the writing.

The hive mind says otherwise.

You also may want to look at the past few pages.
