The Washington Post reported that Gov. Ralph Northam cited safety concerns for canceling his appearance at a Sunday fundraiser for a Democratic state senator in northern Virginia.

Has he spoken publicly about his racist photo? He swore he was going to "do the work" to repair what he'd done wrong. Roll Eyes

I don't see Northam, Fairfax & Herring resigning. They're finishing their terms on January 15th, 2022.

Northam, Fairfax & Herring aren't the only ones with skeletons coming out of the closet.... former VA Governor L. Douglas Wilder (D) has his MeToo scandal coming out:

Also if there wasn't even more reason to hate Justin Fairfax-the CEO of Kaplan recently donated $50,000 to him.

Quote
Courtesy of VPAP…this is certainly interesting. To put this $50k donation to Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax into perspective, note that in 1Q19, Fairfax had only $3,178 in receipts, with contributions drying up after Vanessa Tyson and Meredith Watson accused him of sexual assault. In fact, as far as I can tell from VPAP, this is the first contribution over $100 to Fairfax since January 8.

Sounds like the VA Dems are begging former VA Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) to run for his old job in 2021.

Northam did nothing wrong, except for handling the situation badly.  He should be judged solely by his conduct in public life, and this should be a non-issue.

The allegations against Fairfax should be investigated by the appropriate criminal justice agencies, and not in newspapers.

Not even close.

Northam can't serve consecutive terms anyway and the bench is deep enough that they'll have no problem finding people to credibly hold Fairfax at bay. Even Herring would beat nearly any R candidate in 2021 with minimal effort.

- I've actually been hearing a lot of buzz too that they're already trying to talk McAuliffe into running.  I doubt anything comes of it, but it's not out of the question.

- Northam needs to resign

- Fairfax should have been impeached a long time ago and it's a disgrace that he's still in office.

I fail to see why Northam needs to resign.  His "blackface" incident was as a college student, and was him imitating Michael Jackson doing the "moonwalk".  However stupid this was, Northam has a long history in public life that firmly establishes his record on civil rights, voting rights, and his overall fairness to persons of all racial backgrounds.

Fairfax's issue is more serious, in that they involve allegations that, if proven, rise to the level of actual crimes.  But the two situations are apples and oranges.

I don't particularly like Northam, and I view him as Governor Death, given his extreme position on abortion.  That's not the point, however; the point is that Northam has ample time in public life to show as validation that he's not some closeted racist and that he is unable to be fair, period.  Resigning is an option for folks who have criminal allegations, like Fairfax (granted that they are unproven at this writing).  The Virginia Democratic Party fired off its collective mouths, only to thrust themselves out of the frying pan into the fire.  That's THEIR problem, and Northam has no obligation to get them out of it.  (Frankly, Northam has been more gracious to the Democratic Party than they have been to him; if he told them all to jump off a bridge and became an Independent, it would serve them right.)

I respect Governor Northam immensely after he refused to give into the outrage mob, instead giving them the finger and continue to go on with his job in stride. It was always ludicrous someone should have to resign over a crude photo they took 30 years ago. It's also strange that the party that champions criminal justice reform and forgiveness for criminals who make mistakes, has no such reserve for its own politicians.

He's doing what all politicians do in this situation. Shut up, say nothing, hope it blows over.

Noticed that Fairfax & Herring are doing their respective jobs, hiding in low profile, hoping their scandals blow over.

Argh! Can the two of them just RESIGN already? They're going to guarantee an R pickup in 2022. Northam's refusal to resign also shows that he cares more about clinging onto his power than how voters feel about him.

Northam, Fairfax & Herring will serve out their respective terms & finish up on January 15th, 2022.

Next VA statewide elections are in 2021.
