Strange, but these are the findings of 2 new Easter polls in the 2 countries:

55% of Germans believe in God/Allah/whatever (down from 66% in a 2005 survey)

https://www.spiegel.de/panorama/gesellschaft/christen-an-ostern-immer-weniger-deutsche-glauben-an-gott-a-1263630.html

42% of Austrians believe in God/Allah/whatever
35% of Austrians believe in some sort of "higher force", but not in God
23% of Austrians are Atheists

Maybe that's because Germany has more immigrants?

No, both have ca. 25% migrants.

I think it can be more explained with question wording.

Did the German poll have that middle "higher force" option? Because if not, any comparison is sorta junk.

So for the Germans this is saying "Gott mit uns"?

Does this implied a Deistic God or is this just open venue for believers to confess they belief in a all-powerful Judio-Christian God?

I'll rather it be the former than the latter but sadly too many people haven't been open into studying the history of religion.

Germany is the better country, yes.

Believing in God doesn't make you a better person.
In fact, in many cases it has the opposite effect.

I was trolling Tender, but your response was somehow more of a troll comment.  We have all heard the hot take that "I know you guys all THINK being religious makes you a better person, but boy have I got some news for you!  It is ACTUALLY the OPPOSITE!"

Any normal person knows there is no meaningful correlation, either way.

It's funny you should say that because you don't see very many atheists in a prison.

Because people cling to whatever gives them hope in a hopeless situation. it's natural, and that's basically the purpose of religion - to answer questions that we currently can't answer, to give your life some deeper meaning when, in the grand scheme of things, it's actually meaningless. religion exists to help people sleep at night - many don't want to believe that we simply cease to exist when we die, even though it's the most likely explanation.

There really are two types of atheists, haha.  I have several atheist friends who simply came to the conclusion themselves that they don't believe the Universe was created by a higher consciousness of some sort and that it popped into existence by some other means.  They do NOT, however, take the hilariously ignorant and arrogant view that they have *figured it all out* and all of the non-atheists just haven't quite realized how things "actually are."  They don't think people who believe in a creator of some sort are "clinging" to anything ... because they're the smart atheists.

But people who believe in some deity are clinging to something, they want to think they'll go to some magical rainbow land or something when they die.

The atheist/agnostic/deist/pantheist population is filled with righteous moral people who know what's best for humanity is to not harm another human.

Religious folks by contrast try to impose evil in the world in the name of the holy deity they worshipped.

Sorry, dude, I hate to be mean ... but that just isn't the response of someone who is smart.  There are plenty of incredibly smart people who have simply come to the conclusion that there was a creator of the Universe, some eternal intelligence that was the first cause - a deity.  And, clearly, there are some not-so-deep-thinking atheists who have put a lot less thought into this fascinating debate.

"Did you know non-whites make up a disproportionate number of prisoners, which proves their proclivity to violent and/or sociopathic tendencies?"

^Same argument

Or would you prefer to discuss the non-religion of most mass shooters?

This isn’t 2007. Internet atheism is out. Left-wing Christianity is in. Get with the prog-ram or face the fate of the dinosaurs.
