"The Sorrows of Young Werther" is a terrible book. It does not feature some young, tragic romantic hero, rather it's a story of a little, selfish immature turd who can't take "no" for an answer and decides to off himself just to show them all.

I’ve actually read this book and strongly disagree, although I’m also partial to Goethe

I too am partial to Goethe, particularly for "Faust" (and lesser-known pieces such as "Torquato Tasso "), but I must stand by my opinion on Werther. Maybe I'm just too cynical.

George H. W. Bush was an opportunist to the core, and any talk about him being a "gentleman in politics" can be tossed aside on account of his 1988 campaign.
