This has to be one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. Even if I disagree with it by a lot, I at least get why some people defend flat taxes.

But actively regressive taxes? Why? They make no sense whatsoever!

This runs directly counter to, well, basically every principle of fair government. It makes no logistic, political, moral, legal, economic, you name it sense to do this.

Of course, I would recommend the Council to just put this bill out of its misery.

Better to go to a final vote though. A far better way to wholeheartedly and fundamentally reject this ghastly, beyond extreme economic policies.

I am a Federalist, but I must break with my party colleague to oppose such brash irresponsible cuts and a regressive tax rate system that places more burden on the already burdened. A waste of opposition slots.

===============================

TOTAL REVENUES - ($645.036bn)

===============================

CURRENT DEBT - ($0.000bn)
This is a similar proposal to the one Mr. Wells made but with $3bn added to the transportation budget to cover the Lincoln Rail expansion bill and a bit more spending on education and healthcare. It complies with the balanced budget amendment and still has some surplus.

Let's have a look at the previous budget. And you'll notice a few problems. Namely:
Lincoln doesn't have a sales tax to cut.
Lincoln doesn't have a death tax to cut.
Lincoln doesn't have an estate tax to cut.
Lincoln doesn't have an inheritance tax to cut.

So this bill is cutting taxes that don't exist. What an obviously sound and logical proposal. Why don't we abolish the unicorn tax while we're at it.

Yes, you edited your amendment yet again to get rid of the flat tax.
This isn't even the right place for this. Tax rates are to be debated and will be debated soon during the budgetary process.

ASV, our last budget was in 2017

Since, we cannot pass a budget, we should work on the individual parts and then put them together, and do the budget, that way

The 2019 budget is currently being scored. You are constitutionally required to pass a budget, and all persons involved have given assurances that this year Lincoln will finally pass a budget.
And given the composition of the chamber it won't be remotely close to your tax policies, obviously.

PROPOSED TAXES

Income tax: ($476.368bn)
0% - $0 - $24,999
10% - $25,000 - $49,9999
15% - $50,000 - $99,999
20% - $100,000 - $249,999
25% - $250,000 - $999,999
30% - $1,000,000 +
Lincoln income tax shall be fixed at 20%, except for those making under $50,000, who will pay a 10% rate

So why should we be raising taxes for those at the bottom, for those normal workers earning under 50k, while those earning 6 figures get massive tax cuts? Are we still sticking to the idiocy of trickle down economics?

It saddens me to say, but I cannot support a single measure proposed in this bill.

These proposals are not only financially irresponsible to the core, but could absolutely wreck Lincoln's economy and eschew our tax system to the undeserved favor of the ultra-wealthy. I am afraid that this cannot be fixed through an amendment.

I would motion we waive the 72 hour requirement and thereafter push this to a final vote.
This vote would need to be unanimous. Should the motion fail, I will move to table.

I was about to tell you no, but I forgot Amendments in Lincoln apply automatically (for now at least). In any case, there is no way I'm supporting any changes to the tax rates as long as we don't have a budget. I have been unfortunately unable to perform any work on it due to being very busy with RL stuff, hopefully I will have more time now.

Tax rates should be discussed when we discuss the budget, not before.

I don't see anything in this broader proposal that is workable for me - however, it is a very good example of the notion of "tax reform". Likewise, comprehensive changes in tax rates should only be pursued if/when we have a full understanding of a new/existing budget.

This might be the worst bill I’ve seen. These tax rates show no sympathy for the rigged economy the common man faces.
