He won't. He's very popular and will crush even the strongest of primary challengers, so nobody who values their political career will run against him. Part of me wonders if he isn't running for reelection to block anyone like AOC from pursuing the seat.

Part of me hopes AOC commits career seppuku by challenging him.

Biden will NEVER win the Presidency. Trump wins reelection in 2020.

You seem confused. This thread, I do not think it is the thread you think it is.

I've been opposing him since most of this forum was in elementary school. It's not about to change any time soon.

Endorsed! He's among the top-3 of current governors. Looking forward how King Andy trounces a far-left winger plus the Republican candidate again. However, I'm a little conflicted since I want Queen Kathy to step into the governorship as well. Hopefully she makes it one way or the other (Cuomo would also be a great Attorney General pick for President Biden).

This, but not gonna lie, it'd still be pretty cool to see him pull off what his dad couldn't.

EDIT: off, not of

Hopefully he gets a better primary challenger this time around.

Nixon wasnt bad and Teachout almost blew him but the new york dems saved him https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a8/New_York_gubernatorial_Democratic_primary%2C_2014.svg/1024px-New_York_gubernatorial_Democratic_primary%2C_2014.svg.png

Cuomo losing probably requires a perfect storm to take place. A 2022 wave election year with an unpopular Dem incumbent is a start but I can’t see who in the NY GOP could make the race close? Stefanik? King? The NY GOPs biggest issue is they don’t have the bench to take advantage of good opportunities.

I thought he promised in the 2018 primary debates that he would limit himself to 3 terms, of which 2018 was going to be an election to the 3rd of those 3.

I don't recall such a pledge, or any talk thereof, having been made.

He promised more than once not the run for president if reelected. I watched the debate in which he did pretty well. But he didn't limit himself to three terms.

Jumaane Williams considers a challenge to Cuomo now. Go ahead, buddy, King Andrew will handily defeat another challenger like he did last time around. He'll be governor as long as he wants.

Quote
NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams won’t rule out 2022 run against Gov. Cuomo

“Who forecloses on those possibilities? I’m not foreclosing on anything,” Williams said when asked about the prospect at a Crain’s New York Business forum Wednesday.

“That’s a hell of a question. How do you say you’re absolutely not doing anything? I have no idea. I do know I’m running for reelection in 2021 for public advocate. And I’m excited about that,” Williams said. “It’s not a focus. I haven’t done the math on it at all.”

[...]

“He’s, again, earned himself a challenge,” Jumaane Williams said of Cuomo. “Two years is a long time, so maybe he’ll turn out to be the best governor ever in those two years.”

Cuomo has indicated in the past he plans to run for a fourth term in 2022.

“We’ve heard this all before,” Cuomo campaign spokeswoman Gita Tiku said. “This was the argument he made when he ran against Kathy Hochul and the voters rejected him.”

Any chance Cuomo might get offered a place in Biden's Cabinet?

Possible he gets an offer yes, but far from certain. Cuomo could very well be nominated for Attorney General or Chief of Staff. I'm actually rooting for this because he would a great job in DC and Kathy Hochul would become New York's first female governor. If Williams actually runs, it would be a rematch of the 2018 lieutenant gubernatorial primary. Hochul would be highly favored I guess unless she makes major errors, which I doubt. She'd be great.

Would Cuomo make a good AG?

Maybe.

I prefer Doug Jones being the AG.

Barring winning the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024 or 2028, Governor Andrew Cuomo could decide he may want to stay and beat the record as the longest-serving New York governor in state history.  By the time he (likely) wins his re-election bid in 2022, he will have already surpassed Thomas Dewey (12 years), Mario Cuomo (12 years), and George Pataki (12 years).  If he runs for another term in 2026, he will have beaten Nelson Rockefeller (14 years).  And by the time he retires in 2030 in his early seventies, he will have served longer than even the first governor, George Clinton (18 years).

He won't beat Cuomo in a million years - no-one will - but may be a good way to prepare the ground for 2026?

Bold of you to assume that Cuomo won't run for yet another term in 2026 Tongue

I'm assuming he likes his chances in '24 if Biden loses this year. But yeah, you may be right.

Whew, this thread took off.

I think Cuomo's handling of COVID has been okay so far, coming from a Democrat. It hasn't made me want to vote for him any less, though, I already would support a primary challenger from the left.

As for the future of NY (assuming Cuomo enters the Biden cabinet or something), while I would prefer a progressive Governor, I think people overrate the ability of someone like AOC or Jumaane Williams to win a statewide primary.

The second Central and Western NY Democrats dig up their records and stances, they'd gladly vote for someone like Hochul, or other establishment Democrats.

Cynthia Nixon and Zephyr Teachout ran competent primary campaigns because they didn't do things which painted them to the average voter as radical, something which many of NYC's Democratic Socialists (as much as I love them) have failed to do.

They have such a weak future in statewide politics because they focused so much on getting their first-ever seat, and going big and bold in communities which are far-more politically friendly.

He tried to cut Medicaid during the pandemic. This should be inexcusable.
