What if

Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., the oldest of the Kennedy brothers, and the one who was being groomed by Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., for the Presidency, had returned home from World War II as a decorated soldier?

The plan was for him to go into politics, be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, be elected to the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, and run for President.

Would Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. have been elected President?  Would the election of 1960 be somewhat the same as the one between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon?

Would John F. Kennedy have sought public office?  Would he in fact have been elected to the Massachusetts Senate seat of Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. if Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was elected President?

What would Edward Kennedy be doing?  

Any thoughts?

Quibble: Had WWII not intervened, FDR would have supported Joe, Jr. for governor of Massachusetts in 1942.

FDR hated the pro-Nazi Joe Sr., and bundled him off as ambassador to London.
