I strongly believe that abandoning phlogiston theory is the greatest mistake science has ever made, and one that will likely reveal itself in the near future.

Johann Joachim Becher is the foremost scholar in the history of chemistry. He was right.

It could be viewed as a precursor to quantum theory, with different types of phlogiston corresponding to the discrete energy levels of atoms.
