Didn't love it.  It's not out of line with the touchy-feely view many Westerners have of Buddhism, but using Buddha as an example of why we need to be engaged with the suffering of the world is really terrible.  As far as I'm concerned, all Buddha did when he learned there was suffering in the world was move from the garden of Xanadu to the garden of Nirvana in his quest to avoid suffering.

I wasn't really a fan of hers until she decided to run for President.

What about John Shelby Spong?

I like his approach to religion.

I don't. He's too eager to throw out babies with bathwater rather than do the harder work of changing the water. His whole approach to theology depends upon the proposition that people in the past were stupid rather than ignorant.

Mostly, I do not like what is in the Christian Bible, but it would be worthwhile to discuss some of the pure water, i.e., the few good teachings, at the risk of being accused of cherry picking.
Why not separate the wheat and the chaff?

That's exactly what I don't like about Spong. Rather than throwing out interpretations of the Bible that he doesn't care for, he often comes across as just throwing out parts of the Bible he doesn't care for without caring why those parts were there to begin with or what we can learn from even those we disagree with. Not that I'm necessarily saying we should keep every jot and tittle undisturbed. For example, I think much of Daniel was grafted onto an older text to serve as propaganda during the Maccabean Revolt.
