The Democratic Candidate still lost to an Independent Candidate but it seems really strange that Republicans would not run a candidate of their own in a state so Republican as North Dakota.

The Republican incumbent got primaried, but said candidate soon had to drop out due to a divorce scandal. The defeated incumbent ran as an Indy with GOP support.
