They now comprise 7/16 candidates standing at <=1% in the RCP average:
Yang (0.8)
Williamson (0.2)
Messam (-)
Klobuchar (1.0)
Gillibrand (0.5)
Gabbard (0.3)
Castro (0.8)

Swalwell (-)
Ryan (0.7)
Moulton (-)
Inslee (0.7)
Hickenlooper (0.5)
Gravel (-)
Delaney (0.3)
de Blasio (0.3)
Bennett (0.8)

The >1% Club (7)
Booker (2.5)
Biden (32.8)
Warren (9.8)
Sanders (16.8)
O'Rourke (3.8)
Harris (6.8)
Buttigieg (6.8)

How will this affect the tone of primary coverage? What does this tell us about the Democratic Party?

Doesn't really tell us much of everything, really.

The top 7 is a pretty diverse group anyway. Yes, 4 of the top 7 are white men, but they are fairly remarkable in one way or another. Biden is a former beloved vice president. Sanders is a leftist firebrand who isn't even a democrat. Buttigieg is the first major openly gay candidate for either party. O'Rourke is probably the most ordinary of the bunch, but rose to prominence by coming close to defeating a high profile republican in Texas.

You missed Bullock, it's 7 out of 17 or ~41.2%.  Among the top seven candidates, it's 3 out of 7 or ~42.9%.  I think this is pretty meaningless as far as statistics go.

Bullock did not qualify for inclusion per official DNC rules. We have already received several angry press releases from his campaign.

...and I don't think this is statistically meaningful either, I'm just poking fun of everyone who essentialized running a pointless, going nowhere, polling near 0% campaign for president as "white male" behavior.

I agree so much on this. It's pretty laughable that people make fun of Swalwell, Moulton, Bennet, etc. as "white males" being a vanity run when we have a literal faith healer (white woman) and another low-profile member of Congress (woman of color) running as well.

If Kamala Harris was a white man, with a history of covering up for Catholic sex abusers, he would have been driven from the race long ago.

It's pointless to make fun of Swalwell for being a white male when there are so many other things he should be mocked for.

In all fairness, it's fun to ding on Swalwell because he's literally running like this ClickHole article:
