Don't hang out in the same social circles as many of y'all being a small-town kid from Downstate Oregon.

These are folks I met in small close environments, no campaign rallies, just in groups of 20-50 people having conversations with political figures about a wide variety of issues (Real Town Halls)....

The highest ranking politician I have met has been Jose Manuel Soria, who at the time was Minister of Industry; and also a former mayor of my town and former president of the island council.

I have also met Juan Fernando López Aguilar, who at the time was just a backbench MEP, but who had been Minister of Justice in the first Zapatero cabinet.

In a summer camp I did I also met a PP politician who was the mayor of the small Castillian town the summer camp was in. He is now a Senator, so I guess he did pretty well. He certainly seemed like a nice guy.

Finally I have also met a handful of EU politicians when I went to the EU parliament, but can't remember who they were; and 1 local politician who again I can't remember well.

Only counting those I've interacted with:

Dennis Daugaard
Stephanie Herseth Sandlin
Dusty Johnson
Tim Johnson

I've also seen John Thune, George McGovern, Tom Daschle, Bill Janklow, and Jim Abourezk in person.  Bill and Hillary Clinton too, at a campaign rally.

Can't think of any others who were at least a US representative.

Met all of them. Talked with Yang the most. But Romney was the nicest out of them by far.

Nice. I've asked because I noticed many people tend to present simply seeing a public figure from up close as "meeting".

Dave relaxed the rules so here I will post the official policy platform statements for a few candidates in Oregon, who I met live in person during a pivotal time in Oregon Politics....

Here is Fred Oerther's Oregon Voter pamphlet from the 1990 OR-GOV GE:

Here is Randy Prince's Oregon Voter pamphlet statement from the 1990 OR-SEN-PUB PRIM:

Here is Harry Lonsdale's Voter pamphlet statement from the 1990 OR-SEN-GE:

Thanks to Dave & Virginia for relaxing certain rules regarding posting of images that required an extensively long approval process, even for posters without priors and citing from public sourced domains....

Oregon was going through a dramatic transformation when the late '80s hit....

Our economy and unemployment rate were the hardest hit at the heights of the Reagan Recession of the early '80s....

Reagan's solution to deal with "stagflation" and associated monetary policies of the regime essentially stopped housing starts cold in the tracts.

The economy of Oregon at that time was 40% dependent upon Timber and Mills throughout the state were shuttered and workers furloughed and Oregon experienced one if not the highest unemployment rate in the Nation.

The bosses in the Mid '80s promised us the Tech would be the salvation, as Timber went from 40% of Oregon GDP t0 20% and Tech caught up....

Then the Bush Sr recession of the '80s hit, and once again Oregonians  are suffering....

Bill Clinton comes in and Timber and "Old Growth" Wars heat up in Oregon with the false dichotomy of jobs vs envt and meanwhile the Rednecks & Hippy "downstate Oregonians" do what they do best during recessions... grow some Weed on the black market to support the family while stable jobs are not in large demand.

Met these Oregonian figures during that time, and Mike DeWine when I was out in College in Ohio, literally a 25 Minute drive from his front porch.

No voters pamphlet, but his wife has iced tea and cookies prepared as local environmentalists from a wide variety of backgrounds chatted with him on the front porch about the EPA loophole that allowed hazardous waste to be burnt in cement kilns, including one less than 30 miles away....

Had a substantial interaction with:

* Former MK Michal Biran (Labour)
* MK Stav Shaffir (Labour)
* Former MK Merav Michaeli (Labour)

Have seen many others speak, but didn't have a really substantial interaction with them.

Jimmy Carter (met at Plains Baptist Church, 2018)
Joe Biden (met on the floor of the U.S. Senate, 2012)
John Kerry (met on the floor of the U.S. Senate, 2011 and met as U.S. Secretary of State, 2013)
John McCain (met on the floor of the U.S. Senate, 2011)

I've met with a lot of Mississippi politicians - but the only notable ones are Cochran, Wicker and Barbour.

Wow--- that's a pretty big list of some major known heavy hitters esp between '11 > '16 !

Looks like some pretty good resume material if you are an Op, Lobbyist, or directly involved in the world of Washington Politics....

The '11/'12 experience indicates a certain background....

Personally, the most impressive item on that list was meeting Jimmy Carter in '18 considering how many folks wait in line just for the opportunity to hear him speak....

Attending Carter's Bible study was definitely the most intimate of these occasions.  It was a short lesson (maybe only 20-25 minutes), but President and Mrs. Carter were extremely gracious with and chatted with all the guests afterwards.  We arrived from Athens the night before and got to the church (with lots of coffee) at 4:00 a.m.

The Trump meeting was interesting, but pretty uneventful.  I was doing some low-level staffing for Republican Senator who was meeting with him and Republican leadership at the RNC that day.  My job was to pretty much to carry briefing books and get coffee.  I didn't even get to do the whole "[Shakes hands]Hi my name is..." thing with Trump, but I did get to see him interact with other politicians in a no-media type of environment, which I guess is a pretty rare insight.
