Has any politician who lost an election and then attempted a rematch against the same person for the same office ever actually succeeded?
most obvious is Bob Dold and Brad Schneider, who both achieved this distinction against each other

Joe Donnelly also lost to a Republican house incumbent in 2004 and came back to beat him in 2006.

That happens a lot in House races. But it's MUCH rarer in statewide elections.

And again, NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the Democratic statewide party here in Florida. It is one of the WORST, if not the worst in the country.

If he wants to lose by even more this time, that's his prerogative. You'd think he would let someone else be the sacrificial lamb though. Wayne Messam perhaps?

Nah, Messam's gaming to replace Hastings in the House.
That hasn’t occurred to me yet, but yeah, it makes sense.

I love DeSantis. He would most likely win, especially if this is a DEM midterm.

I mean considering the altitude of the state and its proximity to hurricane routes, the ecological and the environmental axis is tilted far more towards conservation and environmentalism than the rest of the country.

If you're a Dem in Florida, and you lose in a Dem year, you probably shouldn't run for office again.

It wasn't a Dem year in Florida, just like 2014 wasn't a GOP year in Pennsylvania.

If Gillium is the nominee in a trump midterm he’ll lose by 6. IF a Dem wins in 2020 than gillum goes down by 15+ IMO. Desantis will crush whoever the FL dems run against him though.

DeSantis is doing all the right things to get re-elected.

The serious candidates will not be running.  The 2022 Democrat will be a decided underdog.  The question would be whether or not Little Marco would be vulnerable.

Gillum's star is sinking.

DeSantis could win 2022 in a coma short of a sexual or political scandal.  He's probably a model for what a post-Trump GOP will look like.  Hawkish on immigration, pro-environment, fiscally center-right.

I’ve long thought that Gillum would be not-near-the-bottom of a VP shortlist for Warren. I wasn’t aware of the FBI investigation being anything more than a headache.

In 2018, even on Election Day, I’d agree that the FBI scandal was no guarantee, but events that have transpired since seen to support the allegations.

Imagine if Gillum had won, Democrats would want Gillum to run for President/or be their VP as he is Black, and Progressive and is from Florida.
