Given demographic trends in AZ, GA, and NC, it will not be surprising when they flip (though at this time I don't expect this to happen in 2020). I think the most likely "shock" would be if MN votes R in 2020 (though again I don't expect this to happen).

As for a realigning election, I think 1992, 2000, 2008, and 2016 were partial realignments, so I'd say 2024.

Could see Alaska as a Dem shock in a wave. Could see Maine at-large/ Rhode Island as shock states for Repubs in a wave
