Quite frankly, Jackson walked on water, at least in Washington.  He received 82% of the vote in his first election, against a viable Republican.  He continued to win landslides up until his final 69% victory in 1982.  Jackson never, in any of his elections, lost any of Washington's 39 counties.  The most conservative counties gave him some of his largest margins of victory, in fact.

I have a lot of respect for him, and he certainly would have received my vote - and probably would have totally dispatched Ford.
