AOC would be more of a 2028 or maybe 2032 challenger.

Ilhan Omar can’t run since she is not an American. She was born in Somalia.

Maybe someone will try to bring back the Hatch Amendment.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Pros- Excites the base. Several potential diverse firsts.
Cons- Lack of experience/ accomplishment. She doesn't piss off the center, she pisses of the center-left.

Gavin Newsom
Pros- Experienced. Poised. Has been a leader on key issues.
Cons- White guy. Liberal background as Mayor of San Francisco.

Gretchen Whitmer
Pros- Governor of swing state. Accomplished woman. Her political career was in the Michigan legislature or as prosecutor, so she has avoided national controversies.
Cons- She started as Governor recently, so we don't yet know how that'll go. Her political career was in the Michigan legislature or as prosecutor, so she her foreign policy and national experience is limited.

Jared Polis
Pros- Experienced in national and executive office as Congressman turned Governor. Potential milestone. Has managed to win in key swing state.
Cons- Bland

Tammy Baldwin
Pros- Potential milestone as gay President. Has won multiple times in key swing state.
Cons- Doesn't really stand out in the Senate.

Tammy Duckworth
Pros- It is very politically helpful to come from Illinois as long as there's an Iowa caucus. She's a woman of color so her win would represent diversity. She's a trailblazer in the Senate. She's a veteran who suffered severe injuries.
Cons-

Chris Murphy
Pros- Accomplished young senator. Might do well in New Hampshire since he's also from New England.
Cons- White guy. His accomplishments seem more behind the scenes.

Kyrsten Sinema
Pros- Has won in a conservative-leaning swing state. Has developed a reputation as a moderate Senator.
Cons- Slightly weird past. Might be too off-kilter for a national electorate. No spouse. Might be too moderate for progressives.

Doug Jones
Pros- Strong general-election candidate.
Cons- Assuming he loses reelection, won't be all that experienced. Old white guy.

Ilhan Omar
Pros- Excites some liberals.
Cons- Pisses off the center more than AOC. Weird family life. She's also not legally eligible.

Joe Cunningham
Pros- Younger. Won in a conservative district. Ties to South Carolina. Kinda Beto-like.
Cons-  Has to stick around in the conservative district. Still a white guy. Southern white men may lack natural constituencies in primaries. Might piss off the left by being too pro-gun. I'm not seeing much evidence of an inspiring life story/ accomplishment before he got elected to Congress; it seems like he's a prominent judge's son.

Roy Cooper
Pros- Electoral strength in a swing state.
Cons-Not allowed to do much because of the Republican leadership's intransigence. Middle-aged white guy.

Tony Evers
Pros-
Cons-

John Bel Edwards
Pros- Governor who can win states Democrats can't. Centrist credentials.
Cons- White guy. Probably pissed off the base.

Jahana Hayes
Pros- Would represent a milestone as an African-American woman. Has a nice biography as a former teacher of the year. Well-positioned for next open statewide race in Connecticut. Could do well in New Hampshire in the primary as well as southern states.
Cons- There might not be a statewide opening soon. She's a new figure in politics, so her talent is largely unknown.

Tom Wolf
Pros- Experienced on financial matters. Reelected Governor of important swing state.
Cons- Old white guy. He's 70 now.

Stacey Abrams
Pros- Has demonstrated general election and coalition-building appeal. Would likely represent a major milestone.
Cons- Currently her top experience is as the minority leader of a legislative body. She needs something more, and some of those paths are closed to her (though she could easily end up serving in the next Democratic administration.)

Andrew Gillum
Pros- As a Bernie supported younger African-American, he unites several sections of the party. Strong in a key swing state.
Cons- Didn't get elected Governor. That was before some of the investigations revealed sketchy deals about his tenure as mayor.
