It would take just a few tens of thousands of vote switches (out of 86 million) to make this happen:

Carter/Mondale 41.02% / 121 EV
Reagan/Bush 50.75% / 417 EV
Anderson/Lucey 6.61%

Reagan still wins decisively, and the national PV totals for all candidates are exactly as IRL.

Does Carter still concede at 8:30 PM EST, as IRL?

Do the Dems continue to lean toward nominating Southerners? Does the South still rapidly go Republican after this? Does the GOP in Hawai'i remain viable?

Well due to this I would see Dems holding on to senate seats in GA, AL, NC which would reduce the Republican majority from 54-46 to 51-49. The tax cut is probably slightly smaller as a result

As for the south well Dems nominated southerners from 92-00 and they still would be obliterated in 84 and 88 in the south
