it's hard to get S.Arabia and Iran to agree on things, but they agree that Israel is the only country in the world that is sh**tty to women. With them are such bastions of female rights like:Egypt, Pakistan, the PRC and Turkmenistan.  The other yes voters:Andorra, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Benin, Cambodia, Colombia, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, India, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Luxembourg, Mali, Malta, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Philippines, South Korea, Russia, St. Vincent, Sudan, Turkey, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Yemen.  Heavy racists.

The only countries that disagree were Canada and the US

A handful of moderate racists decided to hide during the vote.  Brazil, Cameroon, Germany, Jamaica, Mexico, Romania, Togo, Ukraine, and United Kingdom.  Light racists.

Thread title is predictably inaccurate, since this joke vote didn't claim "Israel is the only country in the world that violates women's rights". Still, the hypocrisy of the vote is disgusting.

Again I dislike how nice the US is to Israel but to be frank I see at as a neccesary counterweight against the rest of the world who hates Israel.

Misrepresentation is serious, yeah.

But you really must admire the French, the Scandinavians, and the Indians: “Well let’s see... is it ever a bad idea to vote with literal Islamic theocracies against Canada and America about Israel?”

In terms of the United Nations being anti-Israel, though, this is pretty mild.

It's this kind of stuff that drives me crazy...I get that Israel has its flaws and the situation with the Palestinian Territories is not getting better (particularly in relation to the Gaza Strip), but continually singling out Israel is beyond ridiculous.

To be honest, the anti-Israel bias at the UN is a bit counter productive when it comes to American support because it hardens that support and allows people to point out the blatant hypocrisy. While it may be working with some European countries, the fact that Israel has the US firmly in its corner allows it to do pretty much anything it wants—it's helpful to have a super power backing you.

A couple of years ago, a majority in Dutch parliament adopted a resolution in order to prevent Dutch votes in support of these kind of things. These parties are now very dismayed that this has happened. It seems as if Karel van Oosterom, the Dutch ambassador to the UN, has not done anything to change Dutch voting behavior. Since Germany abstained, he cannot blame it on "EU unity" either.

VVD, PVV, CDA, CU, SGP and FVD, who have a comfortable majority in parliament, have introduced a new series of questions to Foreign Minister Blok (VVD) about this issue.

TBH Id even argue its better to be a Palestinian woman under Israeli control rather than under a new independent Palestinian state.

This is a blatantly absurd claim, even outrageous. The Israeli State doesn't care at all about the Palestinian beings. No matter if they are men or women, old or young, fat or thin. All of them are victims of the Israeli occupation. If you don't trust me, you can ask Ahed Tamimi

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jul/29/palestinian-teenager-ahed-tamimi-released-from-prison

Quote
Ahed Tamimi, a 17-year-old Palestinian who was filmed slapping and kicking two Israeli soldiers outside her home, has been released from jail after serving an eight-month sentence.

On Sunday morning, she arrived back to her home village alongside her mother, Nariman, who was also imprisoned and had livestreamed the incident on 15 December on Facebook.

Under a deal accepted by the Israeli military court, Ahed had pleaded guilty to four charges, including assault, incitement and two counts of obstructing soldiers. The trial was held behind closed doors.

Supporters say Ahed Tamimi’s case exemplifies the brutality resulting from 50 years of occupation. The event took place shortly after she heard that Israeli troops had severely wounded her 15-year-old cousin, whom they shot in the head with a rubber bullet during a stone-throwing clash.

Her case has also focused attention on the arrest and detention of young Palestinians by Israel. Local human rights groups say more than 300 minors are currently being held.

Saleh Higazi, head of Amnesty International’s Jerusalem office, said Ahed had served an “unjust sentence based on the ridiculous premise that she posed a threat to armed and heavily protected soldiers. This is a huge relief for Ahed Tamimi’s loved ones, but their joy will be tempered by the injustice of her imprisonment and the grim knowledge that many more Palestinian children still languish in Israeli jails, many despite not having committed any recognisable crime.”

In Nabi Saleh, a village known for years of anti-occupation protests that often descend into stone throwing and the deployment of teargas, Palestinian flags had been set up on the roof of the Tamimi family home. The mother and daughter were greeted with cheers as they entered on Sunday.

“The resistance continues until the occupation is removed,” Ahed said. “All the female prisoners are steadfast. I salute everyone who supported me and my case.” (...)

Regarding the resolution, I concur with Kal and have nothing relevant to add

Man throws stones at soldiers.(stones can hurt and can even be lethal, especially if slings or slingshots are used)
Gets shot by Less lethal bullets to prevent further stone throwing.
Girl then attacks soldiers for daring to protect themselves.
Attacks soldiers and gets a relatively lenient 8 month sentence.(This actually makes me respect Israel more)

Meanwhile in a potential Palestine.
Gets raped by local police.
Complains about it.
No 4 witnesses.
Gets arrested and flogged.

Palestinians only have stones to oppose one of the most powerful, well trained and equipped armies in the world. Stones against the most sophisticated military technology .It's hard to find a more powerful symbol of the imbalance of forces existing between the occupying army and the victims of the occupation.

Your last words are simply despicable. A good sample of hate speech and malicious slander. I was tempted to report them, but maybe it's better they remain here. They show a far right bigoted racist full of hate, not far from Edward Norton's character in American History X. Seek help

Are we seriously bringing up Ahed Tamimi as an example of someone abused by Israel? She's a child soldier trained by a notorious terrorist family (with ties to the Sbarro bombing) to attack Israeli soldiers, likely hoping she'll become another martyr. Instead she gets arrested uninjured and charged with assault, and is given a fair sentence in proportion to others sentenced for assaults on IDF soldiers. Much oppression. Such apartheid.

So we have a racist bigot claiming Tamimi will be raped by the police in an hypothetical Palestinian state and other poster accusing her of "child soldier" and "terrorist". The Tamimi's family is notorious because of its activism against the occupation. Comparing activism with terrorism is also malicious slander. Possibly you think that Palestinians should bear the abuses submissively and in silence. Tamimi and others think otherwise. Being criminalized and getting slandered by the Israeli authorities or by people like you is part of the price they have to pay.

The "child soldier" wants to be a lawyer

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jul/30/ahed-tamimi-i-am-a-freedom-fighter-i-will-not-be-the-victim-palestinian-israel

Quote
“The experience of being arrested was really hard. As much as I try, I cannot describe it,” Ahed said. But she added: “This experience added value to my life, maybe it made me more mature. More conscious.”

Her trial was held behind closed doors. Concerns about her treatment in detention were raised after a video emerged in which a male Israeli interrogator threatened the then 16-year-old, commenting on her body and “eyes of an angel”.

Ahed said her treatment was not unusual. “It was not the first, and it was not a coincidence. This is their style of interrogating,” she said.

Her case has highlighted the arrest and detention of what local human rights groups say are more than 300 Palestinian minors.

Ahed said her experience in jail helped with her ambitions to become an international lawyer. “For example, I was under interrogation. There were violations against me. International law says that this should not happen to me,” she said, adding that in another life she would have trained to be a professional footballer.

It’s not quite as bad as the headlines make out (specifically referring to Palestinian women - who I think most people would agree aren’t having a great time). But it shows how ridiculously anti-Israel and anti-Semitic the UN is, and that it has no legitimacy when it comes to arbitrating Israel-Palestine when it allows this blatant hypocrisy to go through.

Obviously, Mr. Trump needs to get on Twitter and denounce Russia, Saudi Arabia, and every other nation supporting this as anti-Semitic. He can demand that they "go home" and call them names.

And I'm sure he will, as soon as they're dark-skinned and female.

None of this is racist.  In Gaza, Hamas was voted into power.  Is it really a stretch to think that a Palestinian State would be a horrible place to live?

Palestine, for reasons obvious, had no election since 2006, and PLO remains in control outside of Gaza, so it's not really that simple. Furthermore, Hamas gains strength largely out of the larger ongoing conflict. Since a peaceful settlement is a precondition for an established Palestinian State to exist, the situation would possibly change a lot.

That stupid vote we've been discussing here was of course a load of BS, since the real issue is not Israel violating the rights of Palestinian women because of their gender. That's the dumbest line of attack I've heard in a while. The paramount issue is suffering of the Palestinians in general. Even the strongest supporters of Israel (and I consider myself a supporter of Israel, as opposed to its' government's policies, which I believe are damaging to the Jewish state in longterm) should be honest enough to acknowledge the Israeli authorities are not without their share of blame for terrible things that are going on. Just as we should have enough honesty to acknowledge harm done by known Palestinian elements.

The main reason why I support the US staying in the UN at this point is due to the fact they have veto power . The EU has completely become a shell of its former self
