Theory one: Sanders did as well as he did because Democratic primary voters were rebelling against Hillary. Biden wins the nomination and the election.

Theory two: Sanders did as well as he did because voters were looking for someone outside the establishment. Biden performs very poorly and drops out by March. In theory, primary voters believe they have more control over the nomination process, and the game wasn't simply rigged in Clinton's favor, which helps her. Probably not enough to beat Trump in the EV, however.
