No hindsight.

In the wake of Kennedy's assassination, Lyndon Johnson ran for a term in his own right. His opponent was Barry Goldwater, a champion of the Republican Party's right-wing.

Goldwater proposed deep cuts in social programs and an increase in the defense budget. He opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which he said violated the freedom of association. "Our aim, as I understand it," Goldwater said, "is neither to establish a segregated society nor to establish an integrated society as such. It is to preserve a free society." He also proposed selling the Tennessee Valley Authority, and suggested that Social Security be made voluntary. In foreign affairs, Goldwater took a hawkish stand, promising to drive the Communists from South Vietnam. The Republican platform reflected Goldwater's vision of less government, states' rights, and greater freedom for the individual.

The Democratic platform praised the Kennedy-Johnson administration, and condemned extremism, more specifically the conduct of the Ku Klux Klan and the John Birch Society.

President Johnson won the election in a landslide. Goldwater was reduced to just 3 percent of the African American vote, but made impressive inroads in the Deep South.

I would vote for Goldwater. Johnson was an absolute disaster from the start, and Goldwater's insistence on smaller government just makes me support him more.

I'm still requesting a darker blue one, but this one will have to do.  Please be patient.

Without hindsight, LBJ.

With hindsight, write in Ho Chi Minh.

I'd vote Goldwater.  Probably because I'd know he'd get crushed, and there's no risk.  Johnson was not a good man, and it's easy to vote Goldwater because he's a decent guy and he'll lose anyway.  His son's a perverted weirdo, but Barry was a good guy.

Johnson, and that's without hindsight.

Yeah, I highly recommend Don's suggestion.  I bet you're one of those idiots who are completely ignorant about communism and have posters of Che Guevara as your political hero in your room.  Just get out of the country.  Now.

Well since Ho can't win and is not even eligible, there's no actual reprecussions to the vote, hence it's just a protest vote and the best way to show my opposition to the Vietnam war.

And yes, I do have a Che poster, however I no longer advocate communism as a viable form of government.

So why no cast a symbolic vote for bin Laden since you oppose the War on Terrorism?

Johnson's policies did result in many deaths, but they were not genocidal.  Genocide is the intentional obiteration of a race of people because of their ethnicity, Johnson didn't do that.

What race did Ho Chi Minh do that to?  The Hmong?

Because I don't. I don't oppose going after terrorists. I strongly oppose bin Laden. I simply don't see that concept as a "war". I still support action against al-Qaeda. I would not have supported action against North Vietnam or the Viet Cong. Then there's also the fact that Ho Chi Minh never carried out an attack on the American mainland.

No hindsight, Johnson

Some hindsight on Vietnam, perhaps Goldwater.
