Right —Congress is currently debating legislation to have federal elections follow Daylight Savings Time. Currently, federal election law as well as the Constitutions of all three regions mandate the voting booth should open and close at 12 am Eastern Standard Time —which works out to be 1 am EDT from March through October. Personally, I am agnostic on this issue: but it seems to me a certain source for widespread confusion if federal and regional elections slated for the same weekend were to begin one hour apart. Accordingly, this bill would amend the Frémont Constitution to specify 12 am EDT as the time for opening and closing regional voting booths, with the change delayed until the moment when the federal law takes effect (if in fact it passes).

I am pleased that the Speaker has introduced this.  It has long been my belief that elections should start and end at 12 AM Eastern time, and as Congress leads the way on this reform, I support moving our election time to coincide with the federal standard.

Now that federal elections have moved to Eastern Time it is certainly logical for us to follow for consistency's sake. Though I would hope that the other 2 regions will enact similar legislation lest we find great confusion.

I don't think it makes sense to have the time for elections be anything other than the default time setting on the Atlas forum.

Seeing no objection, we now proceed to a vote. Members will vote Aye, Nay, or abstain. Voting will last 48 hours or until all members have voted.

Aye.

With four in favor and one opposed, the resolution passes. The Election Time Amendment will now proceed to a vote by the people of the region.
