I may be one of the more anti gun people in here, but this bill is a great idea. No one should be penalized in any wat for seeking mental health advice

I think the basic point here is that we should not create incentives that lead people to make made decisions, especially when such is unnecessary. While not directly related to this matter, I had a relative put off medical treatment for a respiratory illness because it would have inhibited their ability to drive and it contributed to their death.

In general stigmatization is one of the biggest problems that we have in terms of people declining to seek mental health care (access is probably as big in some areas) and there are a lot of sad stories out there where if care had been sought, things might have turned out differently. While this alone will not fix the generalized problem of mental health treatment stigmatization, it is an important step to ensure that we remove yet one more impediment to seeking such treatment by passing this bill.

Combating stigmatization in general is difficult because we are a fighting against a culture and society that tends to other those with mental illness and treat them in a such a way that would naturally discourage anyone from revealing they have a problem by seeking help for said problem. Naturally this leads to illnesses being untreated and the end result has been deadly in some cases.
