That is, if Bryan (or his analogue) advocated a land-value tax and other anti-rent seeking measures.

Could such a character even be nominated by a Democratic Party still controlled to some extent by a Southern Gentry tied to the land? If so, how would he fare in the general election?

Uh... If he’s not a Silverite, it’s not Bryan. Tom Johnson, on the other hand, is a Georgist Democrat not from the South and not named Altgeld, and I imagine he wins over a lot of the Midwest. He’d lose a bit of Western support as a currency moderate, but not nearly as much as he would gain in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and New York.

He does better in the south and rust belt, but worse everywhere else
