I think Weld loses because the GOP base isn't turning out for pro-choice dude from MA. His chances for the nomination would have been zero anyway. Last time someone like him could get the GOP nomination is more than half a century ago.

A pro-life single issue candidate that uses Trumpist and Southern populist rhetoric. MS is blacker than AL and the black population of the state manages to win out against the divided southern white vote.
