There is no reason to believe that Cory Gardner will get much more than 45% of the vote in Colorado. Ordinarily that is enough for winning re-election with a spirited and competent campaign, but somehow I see things going a bit differently this time. A spirited and competent campaign is usually good for picking up 6% of the vote... but the ceiling for Republicans in statewide elections is rather low. 45% is close to that ceiling.

The Tea Party era of electoral politics is over.
