Who would win in this match-up? I decided to compare 2 losing candidates who are notorious for blowing up seemingly good campaigns.

What position does Romney hold in 2000? At the time, he wasn't someone else other than a businessman and failed 1994 senate candidate.

A better shot would be either President Gore in 04, reelecting President Gore after 2012 if he wins in 08, OR Romney in 08 after two terms of Bush. Or more that I'm currently forgetting.

Gore obviously does a good bit better in the South. Good chance and most likely he scoops up Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, and maybe Louisiana. Sadly,He would probably lose Oregon, New Mexico, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Romney would probably still keep New Hampshire.

This. The 2000 GOP Primary electorate is not the 2016 (or 2012) electorate...they weren't ready to nominate someone who had never held office.
