I don't get why they would want to join the popular vote pact?  If they are losing Texas they are still probably losing New York and California and other big states by big margins so it's not like it would be easier for them to win the popular vote than the electoral college.  They would have to make their party more appealing to people that currently write them off.

The year the Republicans lose Texas is the year they will begin opposing the Electoral College.
