It should absolutely be eliminated. Yet another department that should have never existed.

Too bad Reagan failed to abolish it.

Agreed, it's not the government's job to set energy policy.  It's the free-market's.

Nope and it should be in control of a nationalized energy system.

I don't see a reason to get rid of it.

I don't see a reason for it existing.

Opebo has it backwards. He thinks government came first, and private property second.

All government is just force, Philip.  Your caveman clan couldn't have laid claim to its cave without being read to smash in the heads of all the other neanderthals.   Property by definition requires force.

Bungle security at Los Alamos, mostly...Oh, and they write lots of reports and put them online so you can see how much oil we import from each country.

And a few years ago they helped negotiate one of the worst treaties in modern U.S. history: the one with the North Koreans where we paid them to screw us.

It requires force if someone tries to take it, just like it requires force to protect your body. Both are an example of property, a natural institution.

Yes, all government action is the use of force.  That leads to the question, is it justifiable use of force to impose an energy policy on the public?

No.  The Department is needed, though I needs to be more empowered to ensure the nations energy infrastructure and supply is constantly developing and growing to cover all parts of the nation fairly.  Otherwise, the free market factors could lead to parts of the nation not being covered/poorly covered.
