America certainly meddled in the Middle East beforehand, but were any American, NATO, UN, Western European, etc. military forces present in the Middle East before the Persian Gulf War?

TIL that Bahrain has hosted U.S. military forces since 1948.

The U.S. has also had bases in Turkey since Turkey joined NATO in the early 1950s.
