Clinton's reelection seemed like an inevitability for the entire duration of the general election. Even in 2008, there was some uncertainty about Obama's chances until the economic collapse in September. The country was less divisive and a lot less politically obsessed, for lack of a better term. Clinton's morality issues and Dole's lack of charisma also contributed.
