Thanks folks! I hope you all don't mind an occasional stupid question from the newbie such as, er...how does all this fantasy government stuff work? :-) Haven't sorted much out from the Wiki tab other than what region I'm in and the party I'd like to join.

Ah, the bliss of ignorance.....how soon I'll miss thee.

Asking questions is the best way to get answers, no? Wink

What confuses you specifically? Elections?

I just found your Atlasia V 2.0 thread which helped a bit, thanks.

Yes, elections (next election "date", list of offices open to vote for in Mideast), plus governing--is my registering automatically make me part of the Mideast legislative assembly, or is that something I need to run for like (apparantly) senator?

Many more dumb questions to follow... :-)

Well, honestly, I wish we had a schedule for elections, because truthfully I don't know when the elections are myself aside from the Special election in a day or so to replace an at-large Senate seat.

However, the Mideast Assembly does require you to run for it, unlike the Pacific Legislature, where every citizen is a member. Regions determine their own form of government and legislature Smiley

I've been mulling this over for a while now.  I think this would be a better fit:

Minnesota

While I can't say I expected Atlasia's left to stay under one party for long, I'm curious to know what you think the benefit of a new Democratic Party is.

Impatience, pretty much. There's no real point to doing it other than "Thrust myself into the spotlight!"

I didn't mean to be insulting (You'll find I'm just that way Tongue) but my point was that we have a left-wing party (JCP) and a center-left/center/center-right party (DA) so I don't know why there was some need to create another left-wing party. We had two left-wing parties in addition to the DA once, and all it did was split the left-wing vote and lead to centrists and moderates taking over the Senate. (With all respect to the DA, of course.)

Re-register when you have 25 posts. I don't like this new trend of brainless newbies registering when they have less than half the required number but no one questions the registration and they just let it go.

Our name's just a mocking. I doubt you would join our party anyway. Though we focus on civil liberties and social liberalism more than economic liberalism, there are plenty of old social democrats in the JCP as well as standard liberals. (We have some economic centrists and libertarians, but they're not the most party faithful.)

I was joking with bgwah a week or two ago, talking about Elvis Republican. I joked "Look at this moron, five bucks says the RPP recruits him once he's eligible." Just amusing to see that I actually called it.

You're account has to be 15 days old before registering.

I think the rules said I got one "Free" Switch.

Giovanni
Regional Protection Party
Nevada

Awesome!

Looks like he deleted his post, I haven't a clue what's to be done about that.

Also, for the record, his move was to Georgia before it was Nevada. I have no solid proof of this, however..

I take some of the blame for that, I should edit the introduction thread with the updated registration and voting requirements. It was my constitutional amendment that raised them, afterall.

Did you update the party membership numbers yet, like I requested last month? Tongue

I think I updated them according to DoFA numbers a week or two ago. It's most likely not accurate though. I admit laziness on not wanting to go through and count numbers myself. Tongue

Does the fact that the current numbers exaggerate your party's current advantage provide a little disincentive to get around to updating it as well? Tongue

What are the parties here and what do they stand on?

Regional Protection Party- Republicans, moderates, populists, libertarians- the so-called "big tent" of Atlasia. Preserves the rights of regions to retain their desired governments.

Democratic Alliance- Liberals and Moderates. Mostly non-confrontational and attempt to work with both sides, they do however, have only a minority share of the electorate and win usually because of cross-party compromises.

Jesus Christ Party- Liberals, Socialists, and Other Left-leaning groups. Has nothing to do with Jesus Christ. Has everything to with bgwah aka Jesus aka Don'twithhimorhe'llkillyou. They have large numbers but less variety.

I'm glad you could provide this unbiased summary of the political parties of Atlasia.

Also, congratulations to the RPP, for continuing to recruit people with posts in the double digits.

The RPP has a grand total of one populist, maybe two, tops. The DA isn't a liberal party, it has many economic conservatives and centrists, liberals account for maybe a few members. And Bgwah is not a dictator. (Certainly nothing like DWTL)

Bravo.
