Is there one specific action or policy that you wish Barack Obama would've accomplished while in office, but he never did? If so, what would that be?

Recess appointed Merrick Garland while the Senate was in recess when Scalia passed away.

Probably one of the following happening before the election of Scott Brown:

*Healthcare Public Option included in the ACA

*Climate Change legislation

*Immigration Reform legislation, that included a pathway to citizenship

Imo, as much as I would have loved to have one, there was never much of a chance at passing a public option. Even if Democrats had kept Kennedy's seat, the votes just weren't there to either pass a public option or dismantle the filibuster, and there's nothing Obama could have done to change either of those facts. In terms of healthcare, Obama/Pelosi/Reid should really get more credit for passing what they did given how much they had to rely on conservadems like Ben Nelson and Bart Stupak.

I do, however, think it's possible that Obama and Democrats could have passed one more big bill during the 111th Congress. The three semi-plausible possibilities were EFCA (which would make it easier to unionize), the Dream Act, and the Waxman-Markey climate bill, the latter two of which passed the House. I'd vote for all three, but Waxman-Markey is the one that I really wish had passed. It probably wasn't a perfect bill but I think the country and the world would be a lot better off if we had enacted cap and trade, renewable energy standards, and some of the other provisions of the bill.

If he pushed for immigration reform and  making tax cuts Middle class permanent, the 2010 wave by Boehner may not have happened. This would of had to be done with elimination of filibuster,  the GOP was not going to give them this issue

Named Sotomayor and a black or another Latino as SCOTUS, Wood was the logical pick, to replace Souter.

Made changes to the tax code before the 2010 GOP takeover of the House.

Hopefully,  Biden picks a Latino to replace Ginsberg

Immigration reform. It should have been done early into his term but wasn't that much of a priority after he was sworn in.

Recognized the Armenian Genocide.  Year after year, he broke his promise to do so.  I don't care how many people around him conjured up nightmare scenarios that would supposedly have happened if the U.S. made Turkey angry.  He was the president.  He could have overruled them--just like JFK overruled his advisors and didn't invade Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  His failure to do so was cowardice, pure and simple.  And it made the U.S. look weak.

Recess appointed Merrick Garland the actual liberal from Iowa while the Senate was in recess when Scalia passed away. Garland was a pointless compromise anyway

Recess appointed Merrick Garland while the Senate was in recess when Scalia passed away.

And then? He would have been on the court for some months before Mr. Trump would have appointed Gorsuch anyway. Recess appointments for SCOTUS are pointless unless the nominee has a real shot at senate confirmation.

Recess appointed Merrick Garland Sri Srinivasan while the Senate was in recess when Scalia passed away.

Judge Srinivasan would have had even more bipartisan appeal.

Everything Biden wants to is what Obama was blocked. Campaign Finance Reform is the number 1 problem to dispose of. 2 student loan forgiveness for undergraduate students. College should be affordable

Sign a law nationally legalizing SSM instead of forcing it through the courts.

Obviously,  comprehensive immigration reform that Hilary would of done, he stated this on Oprah. It would of headed off the GOP from taking over the Senate in 2014; thus, Merrick Garland would have been appointed.  UDALL, LANDRIEU would have won and Pryor

Abolish the filibuster in 2009.
Pack SCOTUS in 2009.
Pass way more legislation in 2009 than he actually did.

The federal government does not have that authority, at least not directly.

Marriage is the purview of the states & it's the states that determine the requirements thereof, including who's eligible to enter into one as well as when & under what conditions a marriage can be annulled (divorce). This is why it's easier to get married &/or divorced in some states than others. Federal law & the Constitution ensure that states must recognize marriages made in other states; so, if you get married in Texas, all of the other states must recognize that marriage, but the federal government can't dictate marriage requirements to the states through legislation.

Meanwhile, the judiciary can (& obviously has) determined constitutional limitations on what states can do, & they've ruled that states can't deny marriage based on the sex of people getting married, as doing so would be in violation of the Constitution. That is something which the Courts can do but which federal legislation couldn't.

Obama did as much as he could, except for the Garland nomination. Obama was so confident that Hilary was gonna win, he didnt bother doing a recess appointment. A recess appointment would of forced McConnell's hand. If the situation was reversed, then Trump or Bush W would have recessed Alito

A recess appointment of Gardner would have helped Hilary and Garland could of immediately overturned Citizens United and it would of been tougher for Trump and McConnell to talk about repeal gun control and campaign finance reform
