The rumor mill is going full force that Donald Trump may be replacing Mike Pence on the Republican ticket for VP with Nikki Haley.

Reasons given are Nikki Haley is a woman, and may be of more help with women voters and that she would look good on the ticket especially if the Democrats nominate a woman for VP, and that Nikki Haley may be of more help in the suburbs.

Agree?

Disagree?

Please discuss.

I don’t see much positive effect in replacing Pence for Haley. In fact, such an act would no doubt divide the inner leadership of the Republicans more so. It would also show that no one in the Administration, much less the Republican Party, is safe from Trumps irrational decisions.

I also doubt that Haley would throw away her political future on the spiraling Trump Administration. That’s a great way to eventually incriminate oneself.

No way. Hayley is positioning to run in 2024 and needs to kiss Trump's ass to get ahead (just like every other GOP member).

Trump needs a lot more help than Nikki Haley to defeat Biden

I wish.  I dislike Pence a lot more than many others, but he’s a political asset to Trump, unfortunately.

Pence was given the VP spot as a way to placate religious social conservative voters, and without him, it's possible those voters would not turn out to the same degree in 2016. It would not be a wise move on Trump's part to get rid of Pence.

I think by this point, their loyalty to Trump is so firm and unmovable that he no longer needs Mike Pence.  He has proven his 'worth' to them, and they have not found him wanting. At least when it matters most to them.

Why bother? Haley would be just as much of a non-presence as Pence already is.

I doubt Donald Trump has any firm plans for next week, let alone the primaries or the convention.

That said, the idea "we could ditch Pence" is doubtless something that's crossed what passes for his mind, if it hasn't already come out of his mouth at some point. Haley and Ivanka have probably been floated as possible replacements, along with many others.

If he does end up ditching Pence, there's probably a way he can do it somewhat gracefully: "promote" Pence to Secretary of State while Pompeo runs for the Kansas Senate seat.

I hope not, because I do think Haley is a stronger choice now the Evangelicals are firmly in Trumps base. However, it looks indecisive and would cause many problems within the administration. (Sends message that loyalty is not rewarded). Either way I don’t think it makes a huge difference if the hypocrite decides to join the ticket as #2

Pretty unlikely, because if he would have to talk to Pence before removing him from the ticket, in which Pence is unlikely to leave. Yes, I know that at the RNC convention Trump can nominate who he wants without Pence's say, but that would be a pretty trashy move and basically burn Trump in the general election.

I don't think it will happen. Trump relies a lot on Pence for a lot of help with dealing with Congress. Haley doesn't have that experience.

The only chance of that happening is because of some highly unexpected event that causes Pence to be unable to continue as VP, such as medical, death, or less likely (considering the great lengths he goes to prevent the implication) scandal.

Pence is more likely to stage a 25th Amendment coup against Trump than Trump is to dump Pence as VP.

And the former is very, very unlikely.

Haley would never accept. I can see Trump dropping Pence but I don't see any formidable candidates for VP stepping up and accepting the position.

If Trump is replacing Pence with anyone, it's likely to be Cruz, S. Walker, Sc. Brown, Ernst, or DeSantis. No one else.

I can see Trump looking for possible replacements, but I can't see anyone who might be a help to him over keeping Pence accepting the position.  After all, if Trump loses, they'd be made the scapegoat. If Trump wins, they get the thankless task of being Vice-President and it won't help them in future political endeavors.

There is a high chance Trump would either die (given his lifestyle and health) or become so senile even the GOP would want him replaced during his second term, so whoever becomes his VP will likely get to be president.

Yeah, Cheney was "supposed" to be replaced in 2004, and we've had dozens of "is Obama going to replace Biden?" threads before 2012.

Why would Pence be replaced?

Has he been insufficiently sycophantic?

The problem is Trump, himself, if it was Pence and Haley, they will stand a much better chance
