PARLIAMENT
OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF FRÉMONT

(1)

Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! This house will now come to order!

It is my privilege and my great honor to welcome you, the members of the Fourteenth Parliament and the representatives of our Western Commonwealth, to these chambers; and my distinct pleasure to do so once more as your first minister. Citizens and members may use this thread to introduce legislation and to file general motions for the consideration of the house.

MFPs are invited to take the oath of office at the first opportunity so this session may get underway.

Gloria Frémontis!

Harry S Truman, first minister

Excellent! I've heard from Vern and PSOL separately that neither is interested in running for speaker, so as soon as Vern swears in, we'll open a vote.

I would note to members that I am the most experienced member of this chamber (excluding the Honourable First Minister), and that having served as a member of this chamber for over a year I have the depth of understanding of this Chamber's Standing Orders needed to serve as Speaker.
Meanwhile the honourable member from Colorado only joined the game a month ago, this is his first elected office, and he has no experience whatsoever to help him fulfil the role of Speaker. Electing an unexperienced newbie as Speaker has been proven many times to cause many problems for Atlasian Legislatures. And it should also be noted the long record of new Fremont MPs starting strong and quickly becoming inactive.
This chamber already suffers from activity problems. What is needed is a Speaker that can be relied upon to be consistently active and knows what they're doing from the get-go.

The member from Washington is certainly experienced if longevity is any measure, but I'm going to have to push back against the suggestion that a new MFP cannot make an able speaker, having seen several freshmen in my day go on to be competent administrators of the chamber in their first term —Henry Wallace, Kamala, YE, and Ontario Progressive all come to mind. In fact, I would argue that serving as speaker is one of the best ways to become acquainted with the rules of order and resist the vacuum of inactivity.

Yet it also carries the great risk of the newbie becoming inactive like so many before them, plunging the chamber into yet more malaise and inaction.

I've seen plenty of veterans become inactive, too. At risk of giving offense, you weren't exactly at the top of your game for a large portion of the last parliament (a statement that has been true for all of us at one time or another).

Australian Swing Voter, I understand your concerns. However, if elected speaker, I promise to remain active every day to get things done for Fremont residents. Before, I didn't have the weight of responsibility on this forum. Now I do. I have a responsibility to carry out the job I was elected to do fully and dutifully. The very reason I'm running for speaker is because I am motivated to stay highly active here and do as much as I can for the people that we represent, and the best position to do that would be speaker .

With a majority of votes in his favor, Roblox is elected speaker.

I agree, we should ensure that this is a productive session of Parliament. No lollygagging while work can be accomplished, so that the rest of Fremont can have their deserved handful of hurdles to handle.

Speaking of deserved hurdles, I think our first priority should be a rent control bill so less Fremont citizens have to worry about something as basic as finding a home. We should draw up a bill in the next few days.

I concur. There are also a few items on the floor from the last session that need to be wrapped up.
