It is the year 1876. For practically 16 years, the Republican Party has dominated National Politics following the end of the United States' Civil War between the North and the South. However, the 1874 Midterm elections have recently shown given the National Democratic Party hope that they can win National Elections, given their victory in retaking the House of Representatives that year. After the two corrupt terms of President Grant, America seems ready for change. Will America send the First Democrat since Buchannan to the White House or will the Republican Party manage to win a close election and hold on for another 4 years?

Only time will tell.

Welcome everyone to a potential 1876 election game that could happen. Now, this game is far more different than other games, which are set in the modern era of primaries and such. This game is much more decentralized and the players can play for the Presidential or Vice Presidential Nomination of their respective party if they desire it. The turns will be two weeks long in game and will start three months before the start of the Republican Convention on June 14th-16th (Meaning the game will start on March 1st, 1876). This allows the player to build up a support base for their candidate to ride the momentum off of. The rules of the game are similar to the rules of any other games, minus debates, which were considered Taboo and relatively discredited at this time.

As for how a debate can start, a Candidate/Nominee can challenge their opposition to a Debate publicly and if their opposing candidate/Nominee agrees, they can discuss privately (with myself included) where the debate will take place, when it will take place, and what will be the three major issues and questions to be brought up for the debate. The candidates  can then offer their own personal questions to be asked to their opponent (Maximum of four, Minimum of Two) if they so desire it.

Now, you can play as fictional variants of real people if you want, but they need to have a detailed story about their position/ideas during the USCW, Reconstruction, etc, etc.

Now, the game will likely start if we get at least 3-4 players for each party (Republicans and Democrats), though I might wait to officially start this game until after I've gotten a good chunk of the primaries for ANaaCR finished. Don't be scared at the amount of options to play as, they are there to be picked and any candidate who isn't picked by the 1st ballot will be considered as not running for the Presidency.

As for the news, it won't be covered much, considering it will largely follow the path of OTL besides the Presidential Election. A player can react to events they discovered from researching the time period of the Turn they're in however they are like.

Finally, as a sidenote to take into account, a candidate personally campaigning in this time period almost never happened, so the player doing so will considered interesting by the public but won't affect anyone negatively.

Anyways, that's about all everyone. Hope this explains enough and if anyone wants to jump in, feel free too at any time.

Granted.

Reminder that at least two more players are needed (one playing as a rep and one playing as a Dem) in order to start the game, though we can start tomorrow with five players if everyone doesn't mind just five players for now as more can join at a later date.

You have Butler listed as a Republican, but at this point he was actually a Democrat/Greenback. Edit: I could be wrong, as the sources seem to conflict, but my earlier statement is according to Wikipedia. For instance, on his own page he's listed as a Democrat/Greenback from 1874-1893, but on pages for the Congressional delegation and US Representatives from Massachusetts he's listed as a Republican. It probably makes much more sense for him to be a Republican in this game, but the idea of Benjamin Butler running to be the national Democratic nominee for President is hilarious. He would've lost the Solid South 100 years early. Anyway, maybe you could allow Kingpoleon to choose which primary to run in, or you could just keep him as a Republican.

I'll probably keep him as a Republican for simplicity's sake.

Quick Note, players are only allowed 3 endorsements per turn and they all have to members of the Party the requester is in. No cross party endorsements. I'll be able to compile a list of all endorsements following every turn, hopefully.

Reminder to all to post their schedule on what states your focusing on and how you plan to build your support for the coming convention. One day left but I'll give an extension if required. Also, lwp2004 and Jaguar4Life, you will both need to PM one another with me in it so a time and place can be discussed for the debate if it's happening.

That's enough from me though. TTYL!

Is there still room for more people? If so i will run as Vice President Henry Wilson. I will probably need the extension period for all the stuff i would need to post.

I accidentally didn't do my research when I put down Wilson, so I didn't see that he died on November 22nd, 1875. Feel free to choose someone else tho. Everyone is open. And yes, you'll get a three-four day extension.

Alright, Turn II has been posted everyone. Feel free to join if you want to. And question : Once this turn is finished, would it be better if I made the remaining pre-convention turns monthly? Cause I don't want to drag this game out.

As a new player who's never done one of these games before, I have several questions about how the game works. I considered PMing you about it, but I thought there might be other players wondering about the same things, so I decided to ask my questions here.

How, exactly, does one go about getting endorsements? Am I supposed to PM you like I'm writing a telegraph to a politician? And once I get an endorsement, do I get to write the endorsement statement and choose a newspaper to print it in, like other posters seem to have done? Also, when you get endorsements can you send out your endorsers to go campaign for you and do things like give speaking tours? Additionally, will there be a Greenback National Convention in the game, or am I just the presumptive nominee? I ask because the Greenback party obviously doesn't have party bosses or anything like that, so I don't know how I'd campaign within the party.
