And I don't mean "most expensive", because that would probably be something relatively utilitarian but expensive like a vehicle (I would say "or a house", but that probably applies for like five users here): have you ever splurged on something super indulgent, like, expensive wine or clothing or what have you?

My college degree.

But really, I’m not sure. I’ve gone to some fairly nice restaurants, tried some fancier beers, heck i even have a vinyl record and baseball card collection, but none of those things strike me as particularly opulent. maybe my nintendo switch?

Not a specific Thing, but probably how often I take a plane for vacation (2 round trips a year for Europe, 1 or 2 for the Northeast).

not really, no

I bought silk underwear a couple of times when I was younger.  I got that beater Miata a few years ago.  That's probably about it.  I hate "fancy" and I'm super cheap.

I splurge on Veuve Clicquot every New Year's Eve and I collect antique books and antique clothing. Nothing over a hundred bucks or so. I don't like to behave or buy extravagantly.

I think Gucci Ace sneakers with the bee on them are super cute, but I just wish they didn't have different-colored heel tabs.

I bought an $85 sweater last week because it was identical to the one Jeff Bridges wears in The Big Lebowski. I wouldn't call that "opulent" though because I'm clearly going to wear it every day.

Um, a clubhouse box is not even available for purchase by the general public.

Also, the cheapest tickets (1st floor Grandstand) are about $500 each.

1950's and 60's Gibson and Fender instruments and amplifiers.

Amazing era of US industrial manufacturing when things were hand made.

The Kalamazoo Gibson hand made instruments are incredible in terms of craftsmanship and wood selection.

NUT. I would love to own one of the older Gibson SG or Firebird models. But I don't think I'll ever have that kind of money.

A warm, doubled-breasted topcoat for AEA (which insanely uses January conferences in the northeast to hold almost all of the industry's job interviews).

Upgrading to a 4-bedroom end-unit rowhouse (from my current 2-bedroom in the middle of a block) within one block of a Metro station in D.C. and immediately engaging in a gut-job renovation, including expanding the footprint of the house. Should be done in a few more months. There really was no compelling reason other than that I wanted more space.

I've never understood the purpose of a passport holder. Doesn't it just increase the bulk in your pocket?

It has limited use, but I'm glad I have one. I keep it in my backpack - it contains my frequent flyer cards, a couple credit cards, a bit of cash (CHF and GBP), and when I don't travel, passport.

Yes son. I have been watching your posts for some time now and have been quite concerned with your left leaning attitudes.

Bruding resentment festering over a long period of my tyrranical patriachy has seemingly made you rebellious and politically unsavoury in your opinions.
