Congratulations on your re-election, Governor Bel Edwards!

Going to be pedantic for a second here, just to head off any further instances in this thread: the governor's given name is "John Bel"; his last name is "Edwards."
Thanks!  I wondered if he chose to use his full name because his fellow Southerner John Edwards' scandals were still somewhat fresh in the national political memory, and he didn't want some voters to stupidly mix them up together.

Just heard on WWL that JBE is getting *99%* of the African-American vote statewide, which is, uh, troubling for Rispone.
Awesome for JBE!  However...

1. How much did Vitter get?
2. How much of the white vote is JBE getting this time around?

If JBE somehow loses, does his signing of the abortion ban play a factor?

Don't waste your time, guys. Edwards could win by 30 and he'd be saying it's good news for Trump.
JBE could win by a Kim Jong-Un or Fidel Castro margin, and he'd say "See?  There were a couple Republican votes!  Trump's got this!"

This is essentially the reverse of what happened last week in Kentucky.  The challenger was up for most of the night, until the end, when the incumbent starts to pull ahead.

I've looked at Twitter a few times today about this race...a lot of the enthusiasm for JBE came from African-American and white metropolitan Twitter users.

With what's left in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport?  Absolutely.

WHAT A NIGHT this has been!

First, the DMR poll shows Purple heart MAYOR PETE! Purple heart with a mega lead.

Second, the GOP supermajority in Louisiana is dead.

Third, JBE RE-ELECTED!

To whomever asked if JBE could get to a 45K vote lead: It seems possible, based on the fact that he's ahead by 33K votes now, and the remaining precincts are in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

I don't really care JBE won anyway. He's a DINO.
the dude is very much a dem, besides on social issues. if you did your research, you would know that.
And even on social issues, he's still somewhat Dem.  He did sign that EO at the beginning of his first term protecting the LGBT community.

If Jim Hood could have motivated black turnout like JBE did, we might have witnessed a clean sweep this month.

As for the national implications of Kentucky and Louisiana: yeah, it's true that we largely won on the basis of Bevin being a steaming pile of f**k and Edwards continuously remaining popular, but - to put it the way another poster above me put it - if this is actually a lasting trend in our favor, which we can apply to Georgia and Texas, the GOP is absolutely boned next year.
Assuming that the GOP hasn't max'ed out their rural numbers yet.

I'm beginning to think maybe Trump needs to stay in office until his term is up.  He's the best good luck charm that the Democratic Party has had in decades.

Yeah. Dems doing badly in the suburbs is really bad for us if it keeps up, and there's no denying that. That's why we need Nikki Haley on the ballot in 2024.
Just because the GOP nominee is a female who so happens to not be White American doesn't mean suburban voters are suddenly going to flock back.

Can Edwards net another 4K from the remaining Baton Rouge votes? If he does, Democrats will have won the overall vote for the 2019 gubernatorial races.

There probably isn't much more than 4K total votes left there, so very unlikely.
Maybe some absentees and provisionals might help.
