Is Israel's experience an argument against proportional representation?  Tongue

After 2 Elections and 3 Tries, Israel Is No Closer to Forming a New Government

FYI, Israel uses the closed-list method, in which voters vote for the party (not the candidate), and then seats in the Knesset are proportionally allocated to each party based on the overall vote.

No. Proportional representation is the most democratic form of government on the planet. Under a FPTP system, at an absolute minimum 45% of the people’s votes count for nothing at all - and that’s without gerrymandering.

Israel has had thirty-four out of thirty-six successful government formations involving PR, and only four out of six involving Netanyahu.

It's an argument against a cordon sanitaire against the party which is the near-unanimous choice of a major minority group, that's for sure.

As Joint List slowly gets more and more seats, this is just going to keep happening until that taboo is broken. It might have happened this past week, but now wasn't the time.
