Just another repeat of their Kavanaugh tactic. Dems never learn.

In any event - The Democrat controlled House never even asked John Bolton to testify. It is up to them, not up to the Senate!

Impressive that nobody leaked Bolton's "draft" in a weeks, if not months!

After the leak it is becoming painfully obvious that senators should call the witnesses to testify. Hunter can't hide any longer  Angry

Trump vs Bolton fight will be epic. Bolton is going to cry like a baby!

I'm not sure it matters. Lawyers are allowed to lie to the jury. They are not allowed to convince or trick a witness into lying. Maybe the lying to Congress statute could apply.

I am still trying to figure out what the crime is with which he is charged.

He's not charged with a crime and he doesn't have to be to be impeached. Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are misdemeanors.

No, they are not misdemeanors.

And also, that’s a complete misunderstanding of what misdemeanor means here: it relates back to High Crimes. Constitutionally, it has to be a High Crime similar to that of Bribery or Treason. READ and ANALYZE carefully.

 Due diligence would be nice.

I am still trying to figure out what the crime is with which he is charged.

He is being impeached - other have already linked the impeachment charges.

According to Mr. Trump's lawyers, "Trump's lawyers argue he can't be charged while in office — even if he shoots someone".
Quote
The long-standing view of the Justice Department is that a president cannot be indicted while in office. William Consovoy, Trump's lawyer, told the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals that the immunity extends to the entire criminal justice process, including grand jury subpoenas for documents.

Are you saying that Trump's Justice Department and own lawyers are misrepresenting the law and the Constitution just to the benefit of their client, and that you'd be fine with the City of New York, or the SDNY perp walking him out of the White House tomorrow?

Once Mr. Trump can no longer hide behind his office, he can be brought up on charges for the great many crimes he has committed. (Though my personal guess is that he will not be found competent to stand trial, his family and subordinates seem unlikely to merit such a finding.)

They did.  They requested his presence back in November.  (Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/07/john-bolton-would-testify-in-trump-impeachment-probe-under-certain-conditions-report.html).

I personally think the Democrats could have pushed harder than they did for witnesses during the House hearings and that Pelosi withholding the articles didn't help the notion that "time is of the essence".  But come on, MRH, let's not say things that just simply aren't true.

I wrote both of Georgia's senators today via their websites, urging them to support witnesses.  They probably won't, but it can't hurt to let them know there's support for it.

Let's hope so. I think it will be the usual suspects (Romney, Collins, Murkowski), and at least one of Portman and Alexander. Potentially Lee.

Probably not Mike Lee (R-UT).  Just a couple of days ago, he blamed Trump's impeachment on the "deep state" (Source:  https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2020/01/24/sen-mike-lee-blames-deep/).

Thanks for sharing. After he sharply criticzed the Iran briefing by the Trump Admin and coming from the same state than Romney, I thought he may show a little backbone here as well. I was wrong.

This is quite vague and meaningless even by Collins’ standards.

That seems to be acknowledging that they're misdemeanors 🤔 but don't apply here.

It says treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. It doesn't say the crimes have to be like treason or bribery. That may be one way to interpret it, but most scholars don't. It also isn't clear that "high" has to apply to misdemeanors, although that may be a reasonable assumption. In any case, I think that abuse of power* and obstruction of congress are pretty big deals.

I promise I will be better for you.

How many times have you been duped by NYT Anonymous sources before? You just don’t learn.

Romney is also essentially saying he plans to vote on witnesses without saying whether in support of calling them or not.

Executive privilege is a fact as well.

Nice timing, a bit cute by half - Kavanaugh tactics are so obvious. Nothing has changed.

You can bury your head in the sand all you want but no amount of spinning will change the fact that this a disaster for both trump and the GOP. The reality is the Jon Bolton info is damming and He pretty much completely destroyed Trump lawyers entire defense they gave on Saturday.

The GOP are  now canceling press conference and both Romney and Collin are making it clear that  they now more than ever really want to hear from Bolton.  Trump also stabbed many of his defenders in the back by not telling them that he had this info about Bolton since Dec 30 and mitch mcconnell is most likely very furious that He kept this from him in the first place

Since you deleted your post, MRH, you should read what your namesake Senator said a bit more closely.

If you do, you'll see that he specifically said it's becoming increasingly likely that Bolton will be called as a witness.

I swear, you guys just get so excited about posting something that will shut down all opposition that you don't even take the time to proofread.  (And that's about the meanest I can get, so congrats.)
