Most of us know Mussolini was the very first fascist leader. And who was the second? Many would reply "Hitler", even though there was Engelbert Dollfuss before that in Austria. But in reality Dollfuss had been only third fascist dictator in history.

Who was the second guy? Meet Giuliano Gozi, a fascist dictator of San Marino from 1923 to 1943.

Interesting. Unless I'm mistaken, San Marino also had quite a strong communist party for a while too.

I think it governed or co-governed shortly after the war.

You mentioned Dofluss, Hitler.
What about Primo de Rivera, the forgotten spanish dictator, who ruled before Franco?

I totally forgot about him but, upon further reflection, I'm not sure whether he truly qualifies as a fascist ruler. His regime lacked party structure and some new program with mass appeal the others espoused. I see him more of a pre-Franco traditionalist/reactionary ruler.

Unfortunately it wasn't his original creation. That's how Captain Regents dress.

1943 to 1957 and 1978 to 1992.

Thanks.

Anyway, in the interest of fairness, the fascist regime in San Marino wasn't really in the Italian pocket, as it kept the country's neutral status and even became a heaven for refugees (San Marino, a country with an area of 61,2 kmē and population of less than 20,000 accepted a whooping number of around 100,000 refugees during the war).
