Obama gets smoked in 2008.

Id like to see him run in 2012-2016 though.

Allen - 331
Obama - 207

Push this race forward to 2012 or 2016 and I give Obama 50/50 odds.

America is not ready, despite popular belief, for Obama (and they may never be). Nick's map is dead on.

In 08 against Allen, Obama probably loses (unless things are real bad for the GOP then).  Though he would have a decent chance of beating some Republicans in 08 & would have a decent chance of defeating someone like Allen in 2012 or 2016

Obama is nowhere near ready to run for president.

Nobody knows anything about him other than that he is half-black and doesn't rub non-black people the wrong way on a superficial basis the way most other prominent black politicians do.

From what I understand, he is very, very liberal, which is a major liability.

Allen on the other hand is a moderate conservative from a borderline southern state, and has experience as a governor and senator.  Plus he has a football background, which is a big asset.

Allen would kick ass.

Allen-Rice is my dream ticket for 2008, with McCain a close second if paired with any rock-solid conservative like Tancredo or Brownback, etc.

So, yeah, voting for George.

What, you're blaming black people for white's racism now?

Of course Obama will never be president in the US, nor will any other black person - the US is far too racist.

Interesting you put him in your sig then, though. Anyway, I know Obama won a landslide senatorial election, but has he done much to distinguish himself since? I just haven't heard about his involvement in anything major that's been going in the Senate. Same goes for Allen.

'Ready'?  You expect him to become white, given enough time?

He isn't going to get any less black no matter how long you wait.

Obama has massive appeal, he may not be "ready" in 2008, but he has a heck of a chance in 2012 or 2016.  I think he could be competitive in 2008, just like most all other candidates.

Obama needs more experience in the Senate. He could be a capable President in the future, but he isn't ready yet. I could see him running in 2012 or 2016, and he will enjoy an easy victory when he does. But right now, he can't win.

No one is talking about race in regards to Obama's readyness...it's more of a fact he'll have only served four years in the Senate.

Obama is a brilliant speaker and can appeal to white audiences, but there is a problem, he's a "Me to" liberal.  He will tend to vote the liberal line of the Democratic party.  He'll carry Berkley, DC, MA, but little beyond that.

Obviously Obama would lose big due to racism, but the interesting thing for me is the increase in the margin of victory for the Republican in the more racist states:

Obama wont have enough experience to run in 2008.  Allen/Rice would have an easy ride to victory.

I know.. I had some trouble deciding about that one.. but it does have a rather high percentage of blacks.  I actually think both Georgia and Florida could easily go over 60% anti-black.

You have to remember that a black on the Republican side could lead to a 3rd party "white" ticket that could take a large share in the South.

Well, it could but they just might tolerate an uncle tom as VP, given that Allen is in very good health.

I would hardly classify Condi Rice as an "Uncle Tom," not even as an "Aunt Thomasina."

Rice is fully qualified and capable of holding high public office, and of doing very well indeed in those offices.

Your statement about an "Uncle Tom" is outmoded, and, in fact, is an insult to intelligent African Americans across the country.  Your statement perpetuates the myth that African Americans resent successful, Republican, African Americans.  The only African Americans who still hold to this "Uncle Tom" theory are ultra liberals who find nothing good about successful non ultra liberal Democrats anyway.

I doubt that is an accurate protrayal of most blacks, and anyway 'success' is by definition being an uncle tom, given that power lies in the hands of the white master.

But what I was referring to was that the whites would tolerate Rice as a V.P. candidate, because even though they hate a black, and would prefer a white, at least she is a toadying, sycophantic black - the kind they like.
