Rick Santorum. I say this because a far-right extremist Senator managed to defeat an incumbent Democrat, survive reelection six years later, and have a fairly high media profile. And the most amazing part is that he is from Pennsylvania, which has been a blue state in the last four elections. I don't like him much, or agree with his politics at all. But he does have some kind of skill.
